Where you’ll be

Võru, Võru maakond, Estonia

Our home is located in the historical downtown area of Võru. The best way to get around is on foot, and everything you need and more is a short walk away.

Groceries
The biggest grocery store in town is Maksimarket. There is also a smaller one close to the house. Or go to Võru market, where you can by fresh, local fruits, vegetables, berries and mushrooms (depending on the season).

Restaurants and Cafes
For lunch or dinner, try one of the many cafes in the city center. If you just want a coffee and pastry, try Katariina Cafe. Eva Sushi is also quite popular.

Entertainment and Sightseeing
Tamula beach and promenade is probably the most popular place in Võru, where you can lounge on the beach, or take a stroll along the lake and across the bridge to Roosisaar. If you want to catch a movie or show, check out Kannel Theater, just around the corner. Spend a couple hours at F.R. Kreutzwald Museum or Võru County Museum.
Võru Central Square has been newly reconstructed and is home to many events throughout the year. It's a nice place to sit down, take a break and relax. Bordering the central square, you will find the Võrumaa Tourist Information Center.

Shopping
The biggest shopping center in Võru is called Kagukeskus where you'll find a variety of shops and restaurants. Magaziin is also a great place to get any home and garden items, hardware supplies, clothes, and more. For souvenirs and Estonian hand crafts, check out the shop bordering the central square.

Near Võru
If you are travelling by car, it is worth a drive to visit the small town of Rõuge, which features seven lakes in a row. Suur Munamägi is also a must see, as it is the highest point of Estonia and one of the country's most famous landmarks. Try one of the many majestic forest trails throughout Võru County, or check out the caves in Piusa. There is a nice park and castle ruins in Vastseliina. In winter, go cross-country skiing at Haanja Ski Center.

Day Trips
There is plenty to see and do in the region, such as Setomaa, Värska Spa, or the Winter Capital of Estonia, Otepää. Tartu is just an hour away, or visit Valga, which lies on the Estonian-Latvian border.
