Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Guest cottage on 300-yr old farmstead, now a working goat farm. Open floor plan with Queen bed, decorative FP, loveseat, ++ seating, bistro table/chairs, WiFi, Roku TV w/ prem. channels, a/c & heat, 3 cu. ft. frig, m'wave, coffee maker/tea kettle. NO KITCHEN facilities. Full bath (w/ shower) in attached ell. Bright & cheery, close to barn & goat pen. Shaded outdoor grass patio w/ teak furniture. Orchard (w/ fire pit), pastures, hay fields, stream, walking trails in woods.

The space
Prior guests have loved the extra touches in the cottage (continental breakfast items, water & snacks, local beer/wine); the clean country air and crickets singing at night; the relaxing farm setting; walking the fields and trails; interacting with the goats and guard dogs; and an opportunity to try our goat milk, yogurt, kefir, chevre, and goat milk soap during milking season.

Guest access
Hammock, chaise lounges, table/chairs in private area just behind the cottage. Outdoor furniture in the orchard and at various lookouts on the property. Guests are welcome to walk the back pastures/orchard, the path to Angeline Brook, and the walking trails in the woods. Guests can explore the historic cemetery just behind the cottage where four Revolutionary War/War of 1812/Civil War veterans are buried.

Other things to note
This is a working farm, so you may experience farm smells and sounds during your stay. We do have several chicken coops with roosters. Although the goats and guard dogs are locked in the barn at night and barking should be minimal, we provide a white noise machine and earplugs in the cottage for any light sleepers.

Hay season can bring machinery, commotion, and dust as multiple tractors traverse our 4 hay fields cutting, raking, tedding, baling, and taking the bales off the fields. We generally keep our 2nd cut (August) so you may witness our "haying party" when we recruit friends and neighbors to help us pull ~400 bales out of the fields, up the hay elevator, and into our hay loft.

Neighborhood highlights

Westport is a rural seaside gem, a former dairy town with historic old farms, miles of country roads and stone walls, a stunning river, and magnificent beach access complete with sand dunes. We have a family-run winery and brewery and several excellent nearby restaurants ranging from home cooking, wood-fired pizza, a tavern, an oyster bar, fine dining, seafood, and a tapas bar.

The Westport Land Conservation Trust maintains more than a dozen properties in town for walking, birding, trail-running, and mountain biking. Two of their largest properties are within a mile of the farm. Visit their website for detailed maps.

Public beach access in Westport is available for a daily fee at Horseneck Beach State Reservation which is about 6 miles away from us. This beach has ample parking ($13/day for MA residents, $40/day for OOS plates), LEED certified bath houses, a snack bar, and lifeguards. Westport town beaches are not accessible to cottage guests, unfortunately. Town beach access requires a town beach pass, which is attached to a specific vehicle and is non-transferable.

South Shore Beach in Little Compton is allowing 150 cars/day. Opens at 8am. Single day passes cost $15 on a weekday and $20 on a weekend. Week-long passes are available for $50. You can call the Beach Telephone 401-239-4818 with any questions about OOS plate access and capacity updates.

My work: Self-employed Marketing/Sales Consultant
Speaks English
My husband (Norman) and I bought a historic 300-yr old farm on the south coast of Massachusetts in 2010. After a painstaking, 5-year, historically correct restoration, we moved here with our goat herd in 2016. The classic barnyard has a post and beam center chimney Cape house, an English style bank barn, a blacksmith shop, and 3 smaller outbuildings. We converted the blacksmith shop into a guest cottage for family and friends and Airbnb. In season we milk our goats daily and drink the milk and make cheese (chevre), yogurt, kefir, and goat milk soap. We barter with other farmer friends and sell some products at local farmers markets. We are not yet licensed to sell our milk or cheese, but hope to pursue that dream soon. We both work "off-farm" part-time jobs (from home offices) to pay the bills. Laurie is a marketing consultant and Norman is a real estate appraiser.
