Just two hours from Tokyo, SUNAO Retreat Okushirahama is a private 100-year-old kominka in Shirahama, Minamiboso. Limited to one group per day, the 1,000㎡ estate offers total privacy between ocean and forest.

Enjoy wood-fired warmth, starry skies, and birdsong mornings. Your stay includes seasonal plant-based dinner and breakfast featuring freshly made tofu. Yoga, SUP, satoyama walks, and wood-fired baths invite you to slow down and reconnect with authentic rural Japan.

The space
The entrance opens into a traditional doma (earthen floor space) that leads to a cozy living area, with a dining space adjoining it. Further inside, you will find a children’s room and three bedrooms.

The back bedroom features two comfortable mattresses placed side by side for an easy night’s sleep. The other rooms are prepared with traditional Japanese futon bedding.

Our bath is filled with well water and heated by firewood. The water feels exceptionally soft and gently warms your body to the core — a truly relaxing, old-style Japanese bathing experience.

In the spacious garden, you will find a wooden deck, a tipi, a tent sauna, and a fire pit for evenings under the open sky.

At night, enjoy a sky full of stars; in the morning, wake to birdsong. We also recommend a quiet early walk through the surrounding nature to fully embrace the peaceful atmosphere.

While the property is not yet fully barrier-free, we warmly welcome guests from all backgrounds. Please feel free to contact us for more detailed information.

Located in the southernmost part of Kanto, it is a very beautiful sea with rich nature that can not be thought of as an hour and a half drive from the city center.The owner is a surfer, so I can also tell you about surf points, etc.
Trekking and hiking trails can also be guided.

Hi, this is the host's barbecue. I have been living here with my family for about 50 years after about 50 years of traveling. It's hard to introduce yourself in a word, but hardly speaking, meeting my wife in India and learning about the yoga philosophy is a big impact on how I am doing right now. It is also a love and precious time that you can cook and surf into the sea and work. Soy sauce and miso are handmade, but they are not allowed.We live with nature by using local organic ingredients to the best of all possible, or how to clean with natural ones, and more. If you are interested in this place where you live, please come and stay with us. The activity is selective, and all yoga, including the sauna and my wife's mika meditation, all lead to a retreat.(Massages are optional. It is rich in nature and there are a few insects, but please feel the different air than the city.We are also waiting for you to prepare a bath with the power of fire boiling fire.
