Our spacious and comfortable home has everything you need for a getaway with family or friends — including fast, reliable WiFi, a large backyard with a deck, grill, and fire pit, brand new beds, and a soaking tub.
Love the house but need more space? Check out the listing for "spacious & charming historic home" -- same place, but includes an addition at the back of the house with 2 more bedrooms, 2 offices, and another full bathroom.
The space
Summer Hill House was built in 1802 and was the childhood home of Vice President Levi P. Morton. The house retains much of its original charm -- including pine and spruce floors throughout the house and a (now decorative) coal burning dome oven. It has been lovingly maintained over the years to include modern comforts such as recently updated bathrooms and a custom kitchen with new appliances.
The heart of the house is the TV room / library adjoining the kitchen. We have a growing collection of books, games, puzzles, and toys to keep everyone entertained during your stay. Cozy up on the 2 sofas and watch all the apps — Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Apple TV +, Disney +, HBO Max, Showtime, and Peacock.
Our kitchen has a new gas range and double oven and is well stocked with the basics and beyond, such pots, pans, utensils, (sharp!) knives, Le Creuset cookware, etc. We provide a Nespresso machine, drip coffee maker, electric kettle, and a Vitamix for smoothies. Help yourself to basics such as oils, vinegars, spices, condiments, coffee, and tea.
The living room has big down couch and 2 comfy armchairs. Put some music on the Bluetooth speaker and have a drink with friends, or play a game with the kids around the coffee table.
Our joyful pink dining room seats up 8, and we provide cloth napkins and placemats if you're feeling fancy.
Upstairs, there are 3 spacious bedrooms — 2 bedrooms with queen beds and 1 with a full bed with a twin trundle. All have new memory foam mattresses and quality cotton and linen bedding.
The primary bedroom has a private en suite bathroom with a soaking tub and separate stand-up shower with a new massage showerhead. We provide body wash, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, skincare samples, and fluffy new towels in both bathrooms.
There is a second bathroom upstairs with a tub/shower and double sinks, which is shared by the other two bedrooms.
When the weather is warm, make dinner on the grill and enjoy your meal outside on the deck with seating for 10. We also have a large inflatable kiddie pool, which is just as fun for an adult dip on a hot day, or supervise while you sunbathe on one of the lounge chairs. There is a fire pit behind the garage with 6 lawn chairs for smores around the bonfire.
Guest access
There is an adjoining wing at the back of the house that is not included as part of this listing and will be locked. You can reserve the additional space by booking “spacious & comfortable historic home.” Otherwise, the house is all yours!
Other things to note
The fireplaces and wood stove are not available for guest use.
Pets: We welcome dogs, with a maximum of 2 canine guests per stay. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate cats due to allergies. We provide various sizes of dog bowls, dog beds, 2 crates, and grain free treats. Plus, a fleece blanket to cover furniture for pups who prefer couches and towels for muddy paws.
For kids: we provide a pack n play with sheets, a high chair, bibs, and sippy cups, plus a few books, toys, and games for a range of ages.
Snow removal: We have someone who sands / plows the driveway as needed during the winter. The main entrance to the house is covered and abuts the driveway, so you shouldn't have to shovel much (if at all) when it snows. We also provide pet safe ice melt. All of the surrounding roads and sidewalks are regularly plowed/maintained by the town.
Cleaning fee and checkout instructions: 100% of the cleaning fee goes to our housekeeper, who is paid a living wage based on her level of experience and our high standards for cleanliness.
While we don't want or expect guests to clean, we do ask that you help out with a few things before you go to keep the house safe, sanitary, and energy efficient:
- Throw away any open food
- Take out kitchen trash and recycling and put it in the garage
- Load and run dishwasher
- Set thermostat to 50
- Close and lock windows and doors
