At Stavehøl you will live in 1/2 of a 150 year old Bornholm farmhouse in 2 hectares of meadows and woods. Enjoy a secret hideaway near the beach, Gudhjem and Østerlars church.

The space
Stavehøl is hidden away in woods and meadows right next to two roaring streams and Denmark's highest waterfall - a quiet place rich in nature.

The flat comfortably sleeps up to 4, but there is additional space for a further small child if needed. There is a farmhouse kitchen downstairs with an open wooden staircase leading to an upstairs mezzanine living room with 2 cosy sofas. From this walk-through room you enter the large main bedroom with a king size (180 cm) double bed and an antique 'toddler bed'. This room also gives access to a separate twin bedroom.

Both the kitchen and living room have wood burning stoves. Firewood and kindling from is included in the price.

Other features include access to a shared washing machine and free WiFi internet access. We welcome families with children and are happy to provide a high chair and baby cots. The garden features a playhouse and sandpit.

There's a private terrace with outdoor table and seating, a fire-ring for barbecues and camp fires, and sun loungers in the lawn/meadow in Summer.

Please note that the kitchen does NOT have a dishwasher.
Please also note that there is NO central heating - the flat is only heated with the wood burning stoves, an electric radiator in the bathroom and plug-in electric heaters for the bedrooms.
This means that in early Spring and late Autumn this apartment may be too cool for people used to a warm indoor climate.

We always recommend bringing house shoes (slippers) with you, as the kitchen's tiled floor is chilly in the morning.

We live here at Stavehøl and will greet you, show you to the apartment and provide you with the key.

Guest access
You have separate access to your half of the farmhouse and you will share the 2 hectares (5 acres) of grounds (including lawn, meadow, woodland and our own stretch of river) with guests in the studio flat and from mid-June to the end of August with guests in our 3 luxury tents. From mid-June to the end of August the neighbouring studio flat becomes the service room for the tent and yurt dwellers so there could be some noise from cooking and bathroom use between 0800 and 2200.
There are many spaces to enjoy, to hang out, have campfires and barbeques. We frequently see hares, deer, hedgehogs and abundant birdlife in the garden. Swallows nest around the house and nightingale are heard singing most nights between mid May and the end of June. The night sky is stunning and between September and June there are wooden viewing platforms in our meadows that can be used for stargazing.

Other things to note
Please note that although Stavehøl is a very calm space, you will be sharing the 2 hectares with our family and other guests - so absolute peace and quiet cannot be guaranteed!

The last kilometre to Stavehøl is along a gravel private road with a speed limit of 15 km/h that is accessible to all vehicles but may not be suitable for motorcycles or vehicles with 'low ground clearance' - if arriving in such a vehicle you will need to park about 400 metres away in a small parking area.

Where you’ll be

Gudhjem, Denmark

We are located in arguably one of the most beautiful corners of Bornholm, just 100 metres from the Stavehøl waterfall in the rocky Kobbeå valley. The garden is bordered by the safe and sheltered cycle way connecting the iconic round church at Østerlars (1 km from the house) with Melsted's sandy beach and the picturesque fishing village of Gudhjem (both around 15 minutes by bike).

We are a German/English couple who moved to the beautiful island of Bornholm some 10 years ago. We are parents to 14 year-old twins Sammy and Jonas. Having spent life before children travelling the world for long distance hiking and to lounge in hot springs, we now enjoy more modest adventures on Bornholm.
