Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Nestled between the cliffs of Snowdonia National Park and the Porthmadog coast your Western Welsh Wagon awaits with Ultra Fast EV charging, Sauna & bus direct from site to Snowdon too!

With stunning views it is ideal for those who want to be surrounded by nature/wildlife but just 10 minutes to the beach, castles and other local attractions with a bit of luxury too!

Breakfast wrap/takeaway* from the 'Cow Shed' included to get you going so just sleep, eat and explore to your hearts content.

The space
Hand built by us your Western Wagon comes with everything you need for a short break away to explore Snowdonia

Each one has been positioned to give space and unparalleled stunning views of the mountain ranges/cliffs in the local area with outside undercover porch style seating built in so you can take in the views whilst being in the open/great outdoors!

Inside you will find a raised double bed with an opening rear window too, clothing storage boxes, hanging space, storage space for luggage and even a pull out dining table included. In the internal space there are two comfy chairs to take in the views, coffee table, space heater/fire, rustic coat hangar, boot storage and further 'nick/nack' storage/shelving and mirror.

We have tried to make the wagons as energy efficient as possible using thermal insulation and to use minimal energy with just USB charging/lighting available to be as 'off-grid' as possible though the space heater can be utilised as required. If you bring a coolbox then we have freezers on site so can drop off/collect freezer packs daily if required and again is in keeping with our 'eco' ethos.

The site has an open-sided undercover barn area with clothes lines/drying area, picnic tables and a kitchenette/sink area with a kettle and hairdryer too. Shared toilets/showers are approx 60-120m away depending on which wagon you are in!

There are eight of these available and images are representative of the of the style/setup of each. The 'pond' is a drainage scrape and depending on the weather can be dry/boggy or full!

Please note the site is a couples/adults only site due to water hazards and all accommodation is only suitable in size for 2 adults sharing. As it is set in a nature area we have set the quiet time earlier in this area from 9pm for everyone to enjoy the space, peace and quiet.

There is also a vending area open 8am-8pm for coffee/hot chocolates, milkshake machine and a snack machine too!

Super-fast EV charging (160Kw) on site too if planning on bringing an EV vehicle (publicly accessible 7am-midnight/guest access 24 hours - subject to availability)

Bus for Snowdon (Y Wyddfa) stops on site and usually runs an hourly service during main season and drops off at Watkin and Pen Y Pass for PYG/Miners.Grib Goch along with connecting services to other routes.

A sauna is also now available on site for two persons and can be booked for a small fee subject to availability.

In addition we have a number of luxury glamping tents with log burners/private facilities and also a romantic cosy converted horsebox for hire too at the Hadfer Glamping site.

Please note:
1) There are no BBQs/fires in the nature area/around the huts but welcome to BBQ up near the undercover open barn/picnic benches available.
2) Absolute latest check in is 9pm and no self check in due to location/access.

Guest access
Guests have access to car parking spaces adjacent to the accommodation area on the main carpark with drop off/collection approx 50m from the wagons during the period 9am-6pm.

The wagons are in a field exclusive for guests with access to shared facilities via footpaths. There are shared facilities/shower/toilets for guests and there is a also a shared kitchenette space with a sink, kettle, hairdryer and additional USB charger.

Other things to note
Breakfast wrap* available with tea/coffee in the Cowshed from 8am-9am. If setting off adventuring earlier then you can opt to collect your takeaway breakfast wrap/drinks instead from 7.30am.

*To qualify for free breakfast wrap then this MUST be ordered night before as breakfast wrap is not available from daily menu. Other items may be purchased when the Cowshed is open but are not in lieu of breakfast wrap or discounted.

On site food facility is open most days for hot takeaway food and cakes with the new vending area open 8am-8pm too for hot drinks, milkshakes, snacks, cakes and sausage rolls, pasties, sandwiches etc. Packed lunches can be ordered/provided on request too.

More details for this can be found on the cowshed.wales website

Additional extras are also available for your stay including celebratory packs (prosecco/glasses/birthday card) and cutlery pack hire (plates, knife/fork/spoon, glasses). We can also freeze/swap cool blocks if you have a cool bag/blocks too.

A two person sauna is now also available on site for a small reservation fee along with a cold 'rainfall' shower and a 'drenching' bucket. In the barn there is also a bar style bowling alley and other games available.

Neighborhood highlights

There is a dining facility on site open most days with a new vending area open 8am-8pm too and Super Fast Motorway Style EV charging x2 available.

It’s a 10-15 minute walk or 2-minute drive to Tremadog where there are 2 pubs The Union Inn for traditional, hearty pub grub, The Golden Fleece which serves modern-style pub food and a fine-dining restaurant Y Sgwar(early booking recomended!). There is also a fish & chip shop and a SPAR shop too!

There’s a wide range of shops for supplies in Porthmadog, a mile down the road. For a locally-brewed pint, try The Australia which is the brewery tap for Porthamdog’s own brewery, The Purple Moose.

There are three steam railways Ffestiniog, Welsh Highland Railways and the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway – (plus museum in the town too). Other sites within easy reach are the village of Portmeirion and the Glaslyn Wildlife Osprey Centre.

Closest recommended beaches are 3 miles away at Black Rock Sands (large/can drive onto beach but very busy/not recommended in height of summer!), Borth Y Gest, Criccieth and Harlech. The latter have two medieval castles along with trout and salmon fishing on the Afon/Glaslyn Estuary and coarse fishing at Eisteddfa Fisheries.

Other nearby attractions inlcude the pretty village of Beddgelert, Sygun Copper Mine, Zip World at the Llechwedd Slate Caverns and the town of Pwllheli on the Llyn Peninsula and all within about a 30-minute drive.

Hello!.....We set up our little glampsite back in 2019 and put in the facilities that we thought might help our guests with breakfast included along with logburners, ,full quilting in the tents and toasty duvets/blankets/fairy lights for a cosy experience/stay. We've now also added a horsebox that we completed during lockdown with all manner of bits we could find and is pretty much refurbished with everything being re-used/repurposed/pre-loved from curtains/book cases/rope/metal work/planks etc. On top of that we also hand built/modified our 8 Western Wagons during lockdown and when we took over the site we had a vision of creating an alternative to the standard caravan pitches that most sites offer and hope you enjoy the ‘wildlife area’ we have created to place the wagons on and truly be amongst nature. The ‘scrape’ with the rope around it acts as a sump for water to collect to keep the area drained but also then acts as a wildlife ‘reserve’ and regularly teeming with dragonflies/insects and benefits the SSSI for Bats (Special Site of Scientific Interest) just 300m away with additional food in the evenings - watch for them swooping around in the early evening! It does though dry out from time to time during dry spells but the grasses/hedgerows, flowers and fauna provide great cover for a myriad of wildlife. We have tried to be as eco as possible in the construction of the wagons (all built/modified by ourselves) by using sustainably sourced timber and finding material for the covers, that is made from a mix of recycled plastic and cotton, along with using a local company to fabricate the metal bases and provide the waste wood chip to create the paths around the site (which the birds love!) In the wagons you will find low voltage/eco lighting along with reclaimed carpet tiles from offices in London(!) and also a reused coffee/hessian coffee bean bag as a curtain, bits of tree from the woods in front of us/left over wood for the coat/towel hangar and the coffee table/foot stool made from scrap too! Throughout the site we have tried to reuse/repurpose/recycle as much as possible from natural materials such as stone/slate/wood/metal/rope/rubber and our Cowshed, Horsebox and a set of toilets are testament to this and perhaps give some inspiration to any one else who fancies a project! In our spare time(!) we also refurbished/revamped the old cafe to make it COVID compliant but again with anything we could lay our hands on - from old metal sheeting, timbers, pallets and even a shirt! With COVID came the difficulty of sharing facilities though we restricted numbers on site so each tent had their own private facilities, a 72 hour gap between bookings and breakfast collected via our cafe that had been turned into a drivethru (as seen on ITV Wales, podcasts and many papers!). We've also added a packed lunch to avoid queuing up/finding somewhere to eat and can even provide evening meals if required too. There is a little shared kitchenette area with a kettle if you want to make yourself a brew/hot choc before bedtime (and charge your phone at the same time!) . We are right on the edge of Snowdonia with access to beaches, mountains, lakes , attractions and more to hopefully fill your days out and leave with great memories. Thanks for reading and hopefully see you soon...
