The space
Our beautiful farmhouse has been in our family for generations and our decor reflects a bit of our history. Each room is accented with furniture and artifacts from across the generations. In the bedrooms you will find everything from antique sewing machines to turn-of-the-century travel luggage. Throughout the living areas you will find framed canning labels, flour, and feed bags from local mills and canneries which faded from the landscape decades ago.
The Surroundings
Around you are our corn and cattle fields, our barn, and outbuildings, nearly all of which are still in operation and provide a very peaceful view morning, evening, or night. Our large front porch is perfect for watching the sunset with a glass of wine and our back patio and smokehouse make for a perfect outdoor dinner setting rain or shine.
Getting Around
While other homes in the area might require you to traverse 30+ minutes of dirt and gravel back roads just to reach pavement, our farmhouse sits beside state route 340, a two-lane Virginia Scenic Byway, making access to town and the surrounding mountains, trails, and more incredibly quick and easy.
Entertainment
We are pleased to offer 300Mbps internet with a mesh Wifi network that ensures coverage throughout the house and plenty of bandwidth for all your devices. We have two TVs, one in the living room and another in the kitchen lounge. Both are 4K and have AppleTV streaming built in as well as 100+ channels of streaming channels.
For the kids, we have provided lots of board games, books, and toys in the event they get restless as well as an outdoor playhouse with slide, monkey bars, and tire swing! Our fire pit is a great place to cozy up on a cool night with friends and family. While we don't supply firewood, it is readily available nearby and we can provide you recommendations for where to buy and more upon request.
Allergy Information
We use top-grade filters in our main HVAC system to filter the air and change them monthly. Our water supply is from a deep well and is run through water softeners and filters prior to reaching the taps. In the kitchen, the refrigerator and sink offer water that is further purified through a state of the art Culligan Reverse Osmosis system.
We are excited to welcome you, your friends, and your family to our home in the center of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley!
Other things to note
Our farm is still active and has been for over 150 years! That means you'll see cattle grazing in the rolling hills across the street from the front of the house, and corn being grown on all sides of the farmhouse. Because this is an active farm, expect the sights, sounds, and even the smells that occasionally come with life on the farm. Equipment will be coming and going from time to time and crop planting or harvesting may be underway depending on the season. This work is rarely noisy, but for everyone's safety please keep away from the fields, barns, and equipment at all times and watch children closely when machinery is operating nearby.
Also, for the light sleepers in your group, please note that while we are in the countryside, we are also located just off Route 340 and road noise can regularly be heard from the bedrooms on the front side of the house. We recommend those who need absolute quiet take one of the bedrooms on the back side of the house if possible.
