This solar-powered off-grid farmhouse sits in its own quiet valley just 5 minutes from Tamworth — close enough for groceries and a café, far enough that the only sounds are wind, birdsong, and a crackling fire. Sleeping 12 across the farmhouse and loft, it's made for family reunions, group getaways, and anyone craving a true digital detox.


STARGAZING & DARK SKIES

You're in the heart of one of Ontario's best stargazing regions, near the Lennox & Addington Dark Sky Viewing Area. With no light pollution and 100 acres of open sky above you, the Milky Way, meteor showers, and constellations come out in full — bring a blanket, lay down, and look up.



OFF GRID LIVING, DONE COMFORTABLY:

Solar power runs the lighting and keeps your devices charged. Water comes from rain barrels feeding the outdoor kitchen, wash basin, and shower, with a hand-pump well for more. It's off-grid without roughing it — just a slower, simpler rhythm.



KITCHEN:

Cook under the stars on the covered kitchen deck with the BBQ or propane camp stove, fully stocked with cookware, dishes, cutlery, and essentials — just bring coolers for food. Dine by the fire pit, in the screened dining tent, indoors, or out in the open air.



LIVING AREA:

Sink into cozy couches with a book on warm afternoons, and gather around the wood stove when evenings turn cool.



SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS (SLEEPS 12):

Three bedrooms with queen beds, plus a loft with 2 double beds and 4 singles — ideal for large groups and multi-family stays. Please note the loft is reached by a steep staircase and may not suit guests with mobility challenges.



OUTDOOR SPACE:

Acres to roam: walking trails, a hammock overlooking the valley, a screened picnic area, fire pit, birdwatching, and uninterrupted nature in every direction. (Fire pit may be unavailable during seasonal fire bans.)



BATHROOMS:

An indoor washroom with a waterless toilet, plus a bright composting outhouse with a south-facing view — affectionately known as the "loo with a view."



CONNECTIVITY:

No Wi-Fi onsite, by design. Cell service is increasingly reliable for calls and texts, though signal can vary. This is your permission to truly switch off.



EXPLORE THE AREA:

Walk the trail down to the river, bike the quiet country roads, or picnic in the forest. Nearby lakes are about 15 minutes out for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking, and both Bon Echo and Frontenac Provincial Parks make excellent day trips. You're also within easy reach of Kingston and Prince Edward County for wineries, dining, and waterfront. Tamworth village (5 min) has groceries, cafés, a used bookstore, gallery, and pharmacy.



GOOD TO KNOW:

Pet-friendly — your dog is welcome to roam the farm with you. A genuine off-grid, unplugged retreat: come for the quiet, the trails, the fire, and the stars.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire property. Cooking is done on the screened kitchen deck, with dining options in the mosquito tent, inside the main room, or outdoors.

The living spaces and 3 main bedrooms are located on the ground floor. Upstairs, the open loft has 6 additional beds and is accessed by a steep staircase, which may not be suitable for guests with mobility challenges.

A wood stove in the main living room is available for cooler late-summer and fall evenings.

Other things to note
The farmhouse sits in a private, secluded valley, offering a true sense of isolation while still being just a 5-minute drive from the village of Tamworth.

Recent updates include a renovated extension with two additional bedrooms, upgraded solar battery systems, and extra mosquito tents for added comfort. Flashlights are provided for easy movement around the property after dark.

In the cooler months, a wood stove in the main living area keeps things cozy. Guests are encouraged to bring firewood for evening heat. Plenty of duvets are provided, though nights can still get chilly.
