Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Nestled beside a Studio/Gallery on a 5-acre property adorned with heritage apple and pear trees.

Whether you seek adventure or tranquillity, the Studio/Suite is your perfect home base for an unforgettable getaway. Book your escape today!

PLEASE NOTE: We are in the process of implementing some design updates that we have yet to photograph. We hope you love the changes as much as we do!

The space
Experience the serenity of forest-edge living, where you can unwind while being just a leisurely 15-minute stroll along scenic park trails from the heart of town.

Explore nearby hiking trails, lakes, and beaches, or indulge in the vibrant local culture with a visit to nearby markets, restaurants, galleries, and shops.

After a day of adventure, retreat to our wood-fired sauna or gather around the fire pit to share stories under the stars.

The Salty Pear is a hub of artistic creativity. This suite was designed for artist residencies and we offer longer-term discounted stays for people searching for a place to work on a creative pursuit.

Design elements include a patio alcove built using Japanese joinery designed by Jorge Siemsen, a Venetian plaster accent wall by Edward McKeever, and a custom-built bed. The heated concrete floor is cool in the Summer and cozy in the Winter.

The queen-size bed has a comfortable Canadian-made Douglas mattress with high-quality Organic cotton bedding and a Tencel/linen blanket. There is plenty of storage in the built-in Murphy bed and tuck it away to use the floor space for your daily yoga practice.

The kitchenette has brand-new appliances, and we provide everything you’ll need to cook comfortably when you aren’t enjoying our local restaurants: a mini fridge, electric kettle, pour-over coffee maker, toaster oven/air fryer, and two-burner electric hot plate. We also provide cookware, tableware, glassware, utensils, and basic pantry items.

The bathroom has a rain shower head, a full sink, and a flushing toilet, and it has ample supplies to anticipate your needs.

We respectfully acknowledge we are on the ancestral, unceded territories of the W̱SÁNEĆ, Quw’utsun, Penelakut, Halalt, Stz’uminus, Lyackson, Snuneymuxw and Hwlitsum First Nations.

Guest access
Parking is a short walk from the Studio/Suite.

There is a communal wood fire pit to enjoy with other guests.

Enjoy dining on the porch or sitting with a propane firepit overlooking the pastures and forest.

We welcome you to enjoy picnics in the sunny orchard or strolls to our massive Maple tree at the back of the property. Take advantage of the forest park trails bordering our property. There is a disc golf course, a small bike track, and off-leash dog-friendly.

If we are hosting community events or gallery openings, we'll be sure to let you know and personally invite you to join us.

The DIY wood-burning barrel sauna is bookable to the public during the day. We will provide you with a discount code to book your complimentary sessions.

Other things to note
The Studio/Suite is private although it is in the same building as our Studio/Gallery where there can be gentle activity throughout the day.

We have additional B&Bs and sauna guests on the property so the property itself is shared.

The orchard can get muddy in the rainy season, so bring your boots to wear to the sauna or park trails nearby.

It's common to see insects, deer, bunnies, mice, and birds on rural/agricultural properties. Practice living in harmony with nature and having reverence for the life all around us.

Ferry reservations well in advance are highly recommended during the Summer months.

The Salty Pear borders on our neighbour's small farm - so especially during the week you may hear farm-operation type noises like a small tractor etc.

Neighborhood highlights

A short ten minute walk down Rainbow Road leads you straight into Ganges - or - our property borders the beautiful forest trails of Mouat’s Park. Hang a left and follow the marked trail and it will lead you straight into the heart of Ganges. We have the best of both worlds - a beautiful peaceful countryside spot with a bustling little village within a half kilometre. Across the street is the community pool if you are interested in taking a swim.

Many wonderful food carts available in the food courtyard located at the head of Rainbow Road. The town of Ganges is well known for its robust Tuesday and Saturday Markets (seasonal) full of local artisans and fresh farm & food purveyors. There are a number of great restaurants we would highly recommend, also within walking distance. If you are driving, this island has an absolutely magical amount of things to see & do. (See our Guidebooks in our profile for recommendations)

Main amenities in Ganges: two large grocery stores, 3 liquor stores, an excellent health food store, 2 pharmacies, 2 gas stations, hardware stores, a hospital, plenty of art galleries, a pub playing live music (weather dependant), shops and plenty of places to eat. However there are no 24 hour stores.

My work: Design Consultant
I moved to Salt Spring Island from Victoria in 2008 to start my family. I enjoy the pace, proximity to nature, and wonderful community. I designed and renovated a vintage Airstream Trailer as my first B&B and now I co-host for Salty Pear Farm. I am sensitive to my surroundings and naturally pay attention to details and anticipate people's needs. I find hosting guests purposeful and I look forward to sharing all of my favourite spots with you!
