Welcome to Salty Devil’s Rest, an original 60’s beach shack set in a coastal dunescape with valley views to the ancient rainforest of the Tarkine wilderness.

Spend your days exploring the river and local beaches before returning to the shack, lighting a log fire and enjoying a sundown drink on the front deck.

There’s surf beaches, 4wd tracks over the dunes, boating, fishing & hiking so bring the gear and come prepared to have your mind blown in this wild and spectacular corner of Tasmania.

The space
Tassie Beach Shacks are unique structures, somewhere between a cabin and a cottage. Buildings that are designed to keep you connected to the surrounding environment, whilst also providing warmth and shelter. Salty Devil's Rest has been restored, improved and functionally upgraded with everything you need for a comfortable stay in Arthur River. Inside, spaces are quirky, light filled, airy and uncluttered. Outside there's a larger scale, with the expansive deck overlooking cleared areas and coastal bushland views.

A unique feature of Salty Devil's Rest is the outside bath, shower and dining space, nested amongst coastal wattle and manuka. Hot and cold water for both shower and bath.

There's a BBQ shelter with bench seats and firepit higher up the dunes looking out towards the river.

Games are provided for inside and outside fun. The court area and net at the front can be used for pickle ball or kick. Bats and balls are available for guests.

The Shack sleeps 4, it has 3 bedrooms: 1 larger room with double bed, 2 smaller rooms with king single beds. A bathroom with piping hot shower, toilet & laundry. The kitchen has electric oven & stove, all cooking equipment, utensils, plates, cutlery, glasses, cups etc. provided. Large fridge-freezer to stock with supplies and be self-sufficient for longer stays.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire shack as well as surrounding grounds which you enter through a large farm-style gate suitable for 4wd's, trailers, caravans & larger vehicles.

The shack is set on almost an acre of land and there's a large, level, cleared area out the front that can accommodate additional guests with caravans or other camping & off-grid setups. If you're planning to visit as a larger group make sure you explain this in the booking request.

Need coffee & breakfast? No worries. Arthur River is a remote area but there's a shop and take away next door. Friendly owners, regular specials and a menu of tasty snacks hot and cold.

If it's peace and quiet you're looking for you'll find wide open stretches of beach, a tranquil river and dramatic rainforest. There's also a very healthy population of protected Tassie Devils, you may get lucky and see one.

We share the reserve with an abundance of wildlife. Drive slow after dark!!
