A quiet farm nestled in the rural hinterlands of Mysore, offering the peace, calm and quiet that one often needs in order to rejuvenate. We are an organic farm aspiring to be 100% environmentally sustainable. Drop by to spend time by yourself reading all day, lounging and relaxing, or exploring the Bandipur Tiger Reserve or the Nugu Backwaters and Kabini which are all an hour away from our place. We are located 35 kms from Mysore and are easily accessible from the Mysore-Ooty national highway.
The space
The property is set on an acre of farmland where we grow our own organic produce. We chose to create a green wall of yellow bamboo planted around the periphery of the property to act as a compound instead of building concrete walls. The rustling of these bamboo leaves in the breeze is what gives our property its name.
Guest access
You are welcome to access the whole property, the entire one acre of our organic farm, except for the employees' quarters which is their personal space and must be respected.
Other things to note
Please read this closely––we take bookings only after guests confirm they have read this section!
*Sending hugs in advance for reading!*
*Substance abuse and usage of drugs and narcotics within this premises will be reported to the police and if found, guests will be evicted immediately along with escalation to the competent authorities.*
*Fine for leaving premises in a mess: Rs. 1500*
HOUSE RULES
-Please do not smoke inside the house. This is our home and we want it to be respected. You are free to smoke in the rest of the farm, as long as you don't discard the cigarette buds in the soil!
-Please bring as little plastic as possible as we are a sustainable farm and take waste management very seriously. This is so that we don't pollute our villages. Thus, we request you to put your waste in the correct dustbins. We will provide you with bags to store your liquor bottles or cans, if any, so you can take it back. This exercise will be an experience in mindful consumption and waste generation so please don't forget to inform our staff Suri and Gowri about your liquor waste!
- If you use any utensils for personal cooking from our kitchenette or your own, please make sure you wash it yourself! Rustling Bamboo is built on the philosophy of self-reliance and mindfulness.
- We request you to rinse your plates and cutlery after ordering food and put any food waste in the dustbin. This is out of respect for our staff!
- Please maintain hygiene and cleanliness during your stay and leave the house as clean as possible when you leave. This is our home, remember? :)
- Despite this request, if you do not comply: i.e, if you do not take back your liquor bottles or cans, do not manage your waste properly or leave the premises in a mess without cleaning up your utensils and rinsing used dishes, we will LEVY A FEE of Rs. 1500 that will go towards our staff for having to go through the experience of tidying up things which essentially were basic things expected from our guests!
FOOD
- We have a small menu for lunch and dinner made by our staff with the utmost care for hygiene. We have both chicken and veg dishes.
- Please let us know your food preferences for lunch and dinner a day in advance since our staff will have to prep accordingly. We are strict about this policy and will not be able to process orders on the same day.
- Lunch will not be available on the day of check-in, unless you are having an early check-in due to a vacancy. Therefore you are requested to grab lunch in Mysore or anywhere on the way! That's 'cause Gowri and Suresh, our staff, will be busy preparing the cottage for you and will not have time to cook :)
-We offer simple home cooked vegetarian meals for lunch and dinner at an additional cost. This includes 2 Chapathis, one portion each of White Rice, Pallya, Sambar/Rasam, Curd, Salad, Papads and Pickle. These meals are not unlimited and are prepared keeping the number of people in mind! Remember, it's not a resort for a buffet and we do not stock anything in excess quantities unless it is ordered in advance!
- Please also note that we are not a hotel with multiple cuisines and a team of chefs, so our food is simple and basic, home food made freshly with a lot of love!
Note: Meals cannot be customised to your preference and items outside the menu cannot be prepared. This is not a hotel with a massive workforce trained in different cuisines. The food our staff make is simple and homely. So we will not be able to help you with any restaurant-style dishes!
- If you have ordered something and then decide to change your plans on that day, that will still be charged for if the food has already been prepared or produce for it has been procured. Otherwise, it ends up going waste!
- The Veg Curry and Chicken Curry for dinner are different everyday, so even though the dish is a standard, the recipe is a new one each day.
- If you order barbecue dishes (subject to availability), we will make an Indian masala marinade and set up the barbecue for you and you can roast the dish to your preference. So, this order requires you to man the barbecue yourself since our staff will be busy with dinner prep and can't man it for you. Also, we won't be setting up a BBQ if there's rain, since we can't do it indoors. Again, this is a home and a resort!
Chicken Barbecue - Rs. 380/plate (8 pcs) - minimum 2 plates for a BBQ to be set up
Paneer Barbecue - Rs. 320/plate (8 pcs) - - minimum 2 plates for a BBQ to be set up
- We also have a menu for Snacks. Breakfast is on the house!
- Our kitchen timings are from 7:30 AM to 9 PM. We will not be able to help you with any orders outside of this timeframe. Should you need early morning coffee or tea, please let us know the previous night so we can serve it to you at 6:30 AM. No exceptions will be made for these timings.
- All dishes are subject to availability!
KITCHENETTE USAGE
-You are welcome to cook, but please bring your own ration. Please note that the cottage is equipped for you to undertake very minimal and basic cooking like baby food, tea/coffee or maggi and not elaborate meals and we don't make any exceptions to this!
- To reiterate, if you use any utensils for personal cooking, please make sure you wash it yourself! Rustling Bamboo is built on the philosophy of self-reliance and mindfulness and importantly, adhering to this is being respectful towards our staff.
SWIMMING POOL USAGE
*Note: Swimming Pool is under Monsoon Maintenance till September 2025*
Please maintain hygiene when you are getting into the pool. Muddy feet and dirty clothes are a big no! A standard rule for swimming pools around the world: please do not get into the pool in your daily wear clothes. You may use the pool only if you are wearing designated swim wear. Remember, if the water gets contaminated, it will be a waste of 30,000 litres of precious resource and we can't change it every now and then. This is our home-pool and we would like for it to be respected, thank you! :)
Fine for dirtying Swimming Pool Water: Rs.
10,000.
INTERNET AND CONNECTIVITY
We have a pocket Wifi––Jio—that you can take from our staff should you need it or are working from home. For a long time, we did not have Wifi because we believe time spent off our devices is time gained to work on the more essential things in life––like being with oneself or enjoying the beauty of nature. While the pocket wifi ensures adequate internet access for work or connecting to the TV, it is fully dependent on the network in the region which can be affected during the monsoon because of being a village area.
As for cellular network, the area has decent 4G connectivity for Airtel and Jio users. Vodafone has patchy network though!
TV
You can use the pocket wifi to connect to the Croma Smart TV and log into your *personal* OTT platform accounts. Please note that we do not provide free access to Netflix, Prime etc and we do not have a cable connection. If you have accounts on these platforms, you can log into them on the Smart TV. Don't forget to logout! And if you're having trouble connecting to the television, please give us a call right away! :)
ELECTRICITY
We rarely have power cuts unless the main power station is under repair or maintenance or there is a tree that has fallen on the lines due to the weather (both are out of our control) but when we do, we rely on our power-back up which can light up the house but DOES NOT extend to the geysers. So you will have to please bear this in mind :)
Please note that when we do have a power cut, remember this is a village area. You are requested to switch off lights and conserve electricity so that the power back up lasts longer!
Also, please take into account that if we end up having minor, unforeseen electrical issues, this is a village area and we will do our best to have an electrician visit. In the event that an electrician is not available given the rural setting, guests are please requested to cooperate and make a booking keeping this possibility of the immediate unavailability of technicians for any repairs in mind, thank you! :)
AIR CONDITIONING
We DO NOT have ACs in the cottage given the restrictions on power consumption placed by the government in rural settings and also given our commitment to sustainability. We have ceiling fans and portable pedestal fans.
BONFIRE
We charge Rs.850 for a bonfire. And lighting it up for you depends on the weather! Please let us know a day in advance if you would like a bonfire so we can prep the firewood accordingly. And needless to say, if there's even a mild drizzle, we won't be able to set one up!
CHILDREN
Please let us know if you are traveling with children. We charge Rs. 2100 for children above the age of 4 until 10. Children over 10 are charged as per adult rates. So please do write to us in advance If you end up paying the adult rate for children between this age group through Airbnb (where alternate pricing option isn't available yet), we will adjust it towards your food, not to worry! :)
WORKATION
- We welcome those who would like to spend time working from home out of our farm. We have packages for short term (above 7 days) and long term workation stays (above 3 weeks). Equipped with a pocket wifi and an outdoor workspace, Rustling Bamboo looks forward to hosting individuals who can appreciate the chirping of birds and the rustling of the bamboo leaves as they work.
-You are very welcome to write to us to discuss your packages and for more information!
PETS
We have five dogs in our home––Sunaina, Chilli, Mario, Pepper & Gabbar. They are very friendly and loving creatures. They are precious and mean the whole world to us! If guests are not comfortable having them around, they are usually inside their kennels for *short durations of time* - a maximum for an hour - so guests can plan to sit out accordingly. Guests are requested to step inside when the doggos are out for their toilet or play time since we cannot and WILL NOT keep them confined. So if you are particularly averse to dogs, and cannot adjust, we may not be the right place for you to visit!
CO-EXISTENCE
We are set in a village landscape and are a sustainable farm where we believe in preserving the biodiversity of our region. Being a natural space, it is common to find insects, lizards and also snakes, which are an integral part of daily life in the village and on a farm.
As such, we request guests to keep this in mind when booking, and also be mindful of closing the doors when moving in and out to ensure these creatures don’t come in searching for warmth or comfort! This is their home and habitat too! :)
If you spot a snake, please don’t panic. Just reach out to our staff Suri and Gowri and they will help both the snake and you out! We typically don’t kill them since they are innocent and have as much claim to this habitat as we humans do. We try our best to have them rescued and relocated instead. But when a snake dies during any of these encounters, we ensure a small prayer is said and a flowering plant is planted in their memory.
STAFF
-Our staff Gowri and Suresh live on the farm in their quarters. They will assist you during your stay. They speak Kannada and can help you regardless of what language you speak or understand.
- If you leave the place in a mess, it is a hall mark of disrespect for our staff and us and we are not expected to clean up your mess after you. Please? :)
-Our staff will not be available after 10 PM and before 7:30 AM.
- Similarly, our staff are not obliged to run errands for you to the nearby town so you are requested to purchase whatever you may need for your stay in advance.
-Please note that this is not a hotel or resort for 24x7 service.
TOILETRIES
We do provide basic toiletries like shampoo and soap, but not tooth brushes and tooth paste so we recommend you to bring your own!
DRIVER ACCOMMODATION
We DO NOT have accommodation for drivers, so please do plan your trip accordingly! If you would like for your staff to stay with you, they are welcome to share the main cottage with you and will be charged as per standard tariff rates.
DIRECT BOOKINGS
If you are making a booking outside of Airbnb after coming across our listing on Google, please know that we still request you to abide by this section and also confirm your booking with an advance payment within two hours of your verbal confirmation to block the dates so we can streamline our enquiries.
