Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
Listen to the sound of the gentle rapids and birds singing as you reacquaint yourself with nature at this unique and tranquil getaway. Rolling Rapids Retreat is a private riverside cabin that is ideal for couples or solo travellers.

Sit on the dock and watch the sunset. Sip a drink by the indoor wood burning fireplace while looking out the window at moving water. Watch the leaves change colour and fall from the trees. Paddle the lazy river in a canoe or relax in the hammock.

Other things to note
Please be aware that a big part of the charm of Rolling Rapids Retreat is the rural location. There are some challenges associated with being in a rural location to be aware of.

Firstly, the water that comes from the taps inside the cabin is not potable, it comes from the river and is intended for washing only. We provide you with at least 12L of drinking water during your three night stay, but you may want to bring additional drinking water, depending on how much you plan to use.

The cellular reception in the area is very weak (a perfect opportunity to disconnect!) for this reason, the cabin is equipped with satellite wifi. The rural wifi in this area is not the same speeds as we are accustomed to in urban areas. The speed seems to vary based on the weather. It is not intended for streaming and downloads, please only use it for web browsing and communication. We recommend downloading any content (music or movies) to your devices ahead of time.

Also, please note that due to the heavily forested surroundings, there are often power outages ranging from a few minutes to a few hours in duration. Whenever possible we notify guests of power outages in advance, but sometimes they occur without notice.

Lastly, there are bugs here! Depending on the time of year and the weather, come prepared with appropriate clothing to cover up and be mindful when opening and closing the cabin doors. We provide a screened in tent to sit in outside as well as various insect repellent products as living with mosquitoes are a pesky reality of being in beautiful nature.

Neighborhood highlights

The cabin is located riverfront on a picturesque bend of the Madawaska river which is an off the beaten path summer tourist area.

The collection of cabins on this bend were intentionally constructed mid-century to create a place for people to be in nature and refresh mind, body and soul.

It is private, but not secluded; there are about 10 cabins located nearby, most are holiday rentals.

The property is located on a private road used by another holiday rental that we operate (https://airbnb.com/h/loveshackontherapids) and Silgrey Cabin Rentals.

The cabin itself sits on approximately 1/4 of an acre, the property is well treed so there is very good privacy between neighbouring cabins.

There is a sandy public beach nearby (5 min drive) at Foster Lake with pavilions and wade in swimming. Please refer to our guidebook for more details on this and other places to go nearby.
