The River Haus lies at the heart of Morpeth, a historic river port town. Curated with old and new treasures, this pretty cottage is a stone's throw from the Hunter River and overlooks the historic St James Church.

Browse the shops, dine at Boydell's and have a wine by the fire. A luxe sojourn in the Hunter Valley awaits.

The space
This charming three-bedroom cottage in the Hunter Valley is the creation of a travel writer and jack of all trades husband.

Take a soak in the freestanding bath, gather round the wood fire in cooler weather with a glass of wine in hand or enjoy a G&T on the front verandah at sunset. We're a short five minute drive from the new Maitland Hospital in nearby Metford. We're also close to wedding venues including Wallalong House, Tocal Homestead, Albion Farm Gardens, Mindaribba House and Anambah House - perfect for small bridal parties.

There are two (identical) guest rooms offering classic queen size iron beds, AH Beard plush mattresses and fine linen. A third bedroom offers a single nickel cast iron bed with crisp cotton sheets, a desk and office chair. The wifi is fast if you need to work from home. A cute laundry with separate toilet and washing machine is available for those on the road and longer stays. We have ducted air-conditioning throughout the whole house so you're comfortable in summer or winter.

In the stylish bathroom with herringbone tile floors enjoy Grown Alchemist amenities.

The River Haus features gorgeous old treasures including ship's rope, vintage kitchen scales, Bentwood chair, steamship trunk coffee table and weather beaten boat oars. New treasures include Smart TV, JBL sound bar, wifi, ducted heating and cooling, blackout blinds (including a nifty automatic blind for the back doors), Nectre woodfire, Bosch dishwasher and Bosch gas oven.

We offer a fully fenced yard which is great for kids and pets (on request). Please message before booking. There is an additional charge for bringing pets ($100 for one dog and $150 for two dogs).

**If you require only one queen size bedroom midweek (Sun-Thurs nights) please message us for a discounted rate. We also offer a third bedroom with a single bed charged at an additional $50 per night midweek (please advise what guest rooms you will require).

Weekend nights are charged at a flat rate whether you require one or two queen size rooms (sleeping four in total). An extra $50 per night is charged for use of the third bedroom with the single bed. Please put in five guests if you require the additional single bedroom when booking.

***Our cottage has ducted heating and cooling throughout. We also have a Nectre fireplace. We provide enough wood for the duration of your stay (roughly one fire per night), plus kindling and fire starters. If you'd like to use the fire more often, you can also purchase wood and kindling at most petrol stations + Bunnings. You can also collect your own kindling if you need more.

Guest access
Parking for two cars is provided in the driveway. From there all of Morpeth's shops, restaurants, antique stores and the river are a short (flat) stroll away. The newly opened Maitland Hospital is five minutes' drive from the River Haus.

Other things to note
If you are staying midweek (Sunday-Thursday nights), we've reduced our rate to offer couples, those travelling for work and guests requiring only one of our two guest rooms a more affordable stay. Let us know at the time of booking and we can offer you a reduced nightly rate. A single bedroom is charged at an extra $50 fee per night (please let us know upon booking) in a third bedroom midweek. On the weekend, we charge a flat fee for use of one or two queen guest rooms however the third single bedroom is charged at $50 per night. Please put in five guests if you need the additional single bedroom. All bookings have sole use of the entire house.

Pantry Items: Basic pantry items include salt and pepper, olive oil and sugar. Each booking receives a complimentary bottle of Boydell's Wine, milk of choice and local treat.

Early and late checkout: We are more than happy to accommodate an earlier or later check-in subject to availability (no other guest checking in or checking out that day). Please ask us about this.

COVID CANCELLATION - We offer a change of date (applicable extra nightly rate may be charged depending on new dates) or FULL refund (minus any fees, if any) if a lockdown prevents you from travelling to our AirBnb.
