Welcome to Riverfront Cottage, a serene retreat set along the Willamette River within a protected natural habitat rich with wildlife and seasonal beauty. Originally built in 1944 and thoughtfully updated, this private guesthouse blends vintage character with modern comfort. Enjoy peaceful mornings, river views, and a quiet setting shaped by blue herons, songbirds, and river life. A perfect place to slow down and unwind just minutes from town.

The space
The cottage is a private, detached guesthouse designed for comfort, longer stays, and working remotely. It features a cozy bedroom with a large closet, plenty of high-quality hangers, a dresser, and luggage racks. The living space includes a sit/stand work table with a Herman Miller chair, high-speed fiber internet (up to 2 GB) with Ethernet connectivity, and a full surround-sound stereo system with properly positioned rear speakers.

The full kitchen is well equipped for cooking and offers multiple coffee options, including pour-over, drip, Keurig, stovetop espresso, and French press. There’s also a dining area with seating for four. A dedicated laundry room is available with laundry soap provided.

We prioritize comfort throughout the space, including wonderfully soft, non-allergenic linens, fluffy comforters, and a selection of pillows to suit different sleep preferences. Extra blankets, towels, and sheets are always available, so guests can settle in easily and feel at home. Nothing is hidden or locked away—this is a space meant to be used and enjoyed, just as you would your own home.

Guest access
Guests have full, private access to the cottage and its dedicated outdoor areas.

Guests are also welcome to explore the walking paths along the river, enjoy the swing and dining table nestled near the water, and wander the natural areas surrounding the cottage. Please note that the riverbank drops off in places—children must be under direct parental supervision at all times.

For the more adventurous, a trail meanders through the property along Maddox Creek and continues toward adjoining Maddox Park.

The main house and any other areas not described above are not part of the guest space. Clear signage and natural boundaries make it easy to know which areas are intended for guest use.

Other things to note
This cottage is located within a protected riverfront habitat valued for its wildlife, natural beauty, and tranquility. The setting is intentionally peaceful and quiet, with daily activity shaped more by nature than by people.

You’ll likely see blue herons, songbirds, and other wildlife throughout the day. We ask guests to be mindful of sound levels and respectful of the surrounding environment so this special place can be enjoyed by all.

The cottage is thoughtfully equipped for a wide range of stays. Guests working remotely will find everything needed for a comfortable work-from-home setup, while families traveling with infants or young children will appreciate the provided playpen, bedside bassinet, stroller for walks, highchair, changing mat, blankets, and a wide selection of toys for various ages.

For exploring and enjoying the setting, the cottage includes binoculars for wildlife viewing, local walking maps, and area guides, along with a curated collection of maps and “things to do” resources courtesy of Travel Oregon—ideal for planning local outings or day trips around the state.

Neighborhood highlights

West Linn, Oregon is known for its wooded hillsides, river access, and strong connection to the outdoors. Located just south of Portland, it offers a quieter, more residential feel while remaining well connected to the greater metro area.

The cottage sits in the historic Bolton neighborhood, directly along the Willamette River and beside Maddox Woods Park. This area is defined by mature trees, riverfront trails, and protected green spaces, creating a setting that feels peaceful and immersed in nature rather than developed or commercial. From the property, guests can step directly into parkland, walk along wooded paths, or follow river routes that connect to nearby parks and viewpoints.

Within a short walk is Bolton’s Central Village, a small neighborhood hub with a “town square” feel. Here you’ll find Market of Choice, local cafés, restaurants, the public library, and everyday conveniences—all without needing to drive. Additional parks, including Burnside Park, McLean House Park, and West Bridge Park, are close by and easily accessible on foot or by bike.

While it is always tough to leave my two besties, my Aussies, Beethoven and Etta James, I enjoy traveling and incorporating attending music and events while experiencing new cultures. I generally travel solo and try my best to travel light, focusing on experiences over packing and unpacking! I appreciate and respect the opportunity to be welcomed into one’s home and business and treat each visit with its due respect. I am 4x vaccinated against Covid and had my run in with it in Jan, 22 so very well protected! Cheers to travel again and the opportunities extended! — kristin
