Built in the 1920s, this unique 1,500 square foot, two-story miner’s cabin was once part of the residence and working property of Sherman Hinckley, president and general manager of the Rico Argentine Mine. Hinckley lived on this property during the final era of Rico’s mining history, from the years following World War II through the early 1970s.

Originally built as the property’s workshop, this historic two story structure was transformed into a mountain retreat in the 1990’s, and fully remodeled in 2022, creating a fresh, bright, modern interior while preserving its unique character.

You will have exclusive access to the entire 1500 sq foot miners cabin.

This cabin is a standalone structure with its own address, private entrance, and dedicated utilities. It is connected to the main home by an enclosed breezeway that was designed to allow passage between the properties during the winter months. The breezeway is locked off on both ends, providing privacy and separation between the cabin and the main home.

Guests staying in the cabin have exclusive use of the south-facing deck, outdoor deck seating area, Weber grill, and the private parking area located in front of the cabin.

The outdoor cedar sauna and fire pit are shared amenities available to guests staying in the three residences on the property.

Other things to note
Rico is a high Mountian town. We are located 8827 feet above sea level. In the winter snow storms can move in quickly. 4 wheel/All-Wheel drive vehicle is strongly recommended when visiting the Telluride area during the winter months from November to April.

We are located directly in the center of town, one block off of Main Street, directly across from the historic courthouse which is Townhall. Our location right off Main Street makes it easy to visit year round and to access Rico by foot.

Just so you know, while we do our best to keep the path to the outdoor sauna clear, however you may need to remove some snow to access it, especially between storms.

Rico is a true victorian small mining town in the San Juan National Forest nearly 9000 ft above sea level. It’s beautiful and quiet yet only 25 miles from Mountian Village/Telluride.

We are located on the north west corner of Mantz and Commercial street, directly across from the historic courthouse. We are next door to Silver Creek Barbecue, and half a block from The Enterprise Bar and Grill, one of Colorados oldest bars.

The Delores River runs through town just a couple blocks from our door, giving you access to some of the best fly fishing in Colorado.
