Our 18th-century farmhouse has been redesigned with modern freshness and flare while maintaining its old farm/country appeal. We're told it's just the right amount of cool, hip & chill. Located in a prime location close to the town of Wellington and numerous wineries. 3 Bed/3 Bath. #1 master w/ en-suite & rooms #2 & #3 share a full bath upstairs. Owners live in and service the home. When home. The home & property are not child/pet proof sorry so a no kids/pets policy is in effect. STA#20200054

The space
Welcome to our farmhouse! We’re excited to have you here, and please note that this is our family home, not a full-house rental. While we’re happy to offer you a comfortable room and some coffee in the morning, we ask that you explore the local dining options and attractions rather than using our space for meal preparation or extended home-like activities. If your intention is to have a full kitchen and living space, a complete home rental might be a better fit. Thank you for understanding and helping us maintain a pleasant environment for everyone.

We strive to keep our rates below the average for our amenities and have maintained the same prices for several years. Unfortunately, recent changes by Airbnb, including full taxes and higher fees, make it appear as though rates have significantly increased. Rest assured, our rates remain unchanged. You can verify this by searching for Red Barn Farm PEC online.

Our goal is to ensure you fully enjoy your time in the County and spread the love around. We believe this is the healthiest approach. We are continually updating and enhancing our property, with recent improvements including a new front deck and a refreshed sunroom.

We are also compliant with the new local bylaw regulations implemented in 2020. Our registration with the County ensures your utmost safety, adhering to fire codes and all other legal conditions for a secure stay.

This listing is for private room is #2. It is #2 of 3 in our large 18th-century farmhouse. With two original large windows in the room, you have a lovely southern view of Hadherway Stables across the road and an east view of the front lawn, working fields and stunning county sunrises. We’ve been told you won’t find a nicer, cleaner room/house at this price for this location. We've added a mini fridge in the room for added convenience.

Outfitted with a comfortable queen bed with quality linens, this room shares a bathroom down the hall with just one other bedroom for a maximum of four people. Tastefully designed, we hope you will be very happy with the walk-in rain shower and beautifully adorned fixtures. Towels are provided.

Main Floor:
Full Kitchen & Laundry
Large Main Room - consists of the dining area, living room space, stone fireplace and library.
Full Bathroom
Sun Room/Breakfast Room - UPDATE for 2023 new windows, doors, furniture and a wrap around deck should make the fave room of the house even better !

2nd Floor:
3 beautiful bedrooms- 1 master w/ ensuite, 2 private bedrooms with shared full bathroom. All with new beds and quality linens.

The owner's private loft is also located upstairs off the back of the house. You will rarely see us.

On the property is also a workshop/drive shed and our magnificent signature Red Barn. The inside of these buildings are off limits but feel free to walk up and admire their grandeur.

A slice of country heaven perfectly located in wonderful PEC!

Notable comments based on guest feedback:

* Breakfast/Kitchen- We do not provide breakfast but we do provide a self-serve coffee & tea selection. Our kitchen can be used by guests for light prep and ask that you please understand and recognize that it is our own personal kitchen. Full meals are more challenging to accommodate. The culinary scene in PEC is incredible and we like to encourage our guests to participate in the County's local economy.

* The house is over 170 years old with original floors thus it can be pretty creaky. Especially in the quiet evenings. If you are a light sleeper -
A trip to the bathroom has the potential for some floor sounds. Ear Plugs might be a good idea if you are a light sleeper. This has never been an issue with anyone and is nowhere near as bad as it sounds, we just like full disclosure of anything we can think of.

* We have an a/c - however - the charm of an old farmhouse is that it is meant for windows to be open and breezes blowing through. Even with full A/C on the upstairs bedrooms have been known to be a tad warm during the heat waves. The windows open and fans in the rooms seem to have made 99..5% of our guests comfortable. If you need full air conditioning and an independent climate-controlled room, we are probably not the place for you.

* Taxis & other transit options are very limited & slow around here, prepare accordingly. A ride-share program called U-Ride is now available as an app-based service downloadable wherever you purchase your apps.

* Patrick the pup is a small dog who thinks he is VERY mighty. He will bark at you and has a tendency to charge as a way to tell you he is the boss. Jen will always do her best to minimize his terror. He is terrible at sharing and therefore we must have a no-dog policy for guests.

*For the consideration of the shared space and the concerns over liability we do not accept infants or children to stay in our home.

Guest access
Our kitchen can be used by guests when we are not using it and ask that you please understand and recognize that it is our own personal kitchen and it is for this reason we do not recommend you make all of your meals on-site. Light prep yes, full on meals no. The culinary scene in PEC is incredible and we like to encourage our guests to participate in the County's local economy.

Water is safe from the tap and you also have access to a bottled water dispenser in the kitchen so we ask (plead) on behalf of the planet that you limit the use of water bottles. We have a ceramic bottle and glasses in your room that you can refill whenever you need as well as a travelling water bottle you can take with you.

Our lovely screened sunroom at the front of the house is the perfect place to start, or any time of day really. In season that is. We have a Nespresso machine as well as French press coffee & teas available for you to help yourselves. We have added a mini fridge in the room so you will not need to share ours in the kitchen.

Wireless internet is provided but it's rural, don't expect city speeds. We don't have a TV in the bedrooms. Most guests just retire to their own rooms with their own devices and streaming on our wireless seems to be the common practice. Our hope, however, is that you didn't come to watch tv, and you are pooped out from the days & evenings exploring. A bookcase is stacked with a wide range of subject matter if you wish to curl up with one of our books. Lots of places here to retreat for peace.

New, quality Raleigh multi-speed cruiser bikes are available for guest use or bring your own. Biking is very popular in the county but please drive with caution.

Either or both owners Chris and Jen may or may not be on hand for questions in person. We both work and travel quite a bit. You should Count on being self-sufficient. We are however always a text or phone call away.

During your stay
We can be as accessible as you wish. Our loft is designed for our privacy so as to give our guests the level of privacy they desire.

We will always be only a text away to answer any of your questions.

Neighborhood highlights

Right in the heart of the county, on a truly unique county address. Here on Swamp College Road we are just minutes from the village of Wellington. The town boasts the famous Drake Devonshire Inn as well as other local haunts that contribute to its quaintness. We list these in more detail in our guide book. There is a Foodland grocery and Home Hardware store for your convenience too.

Numerous wineries make the county a desirable place to visit and many of them are within 20 minutes of our property. A VERY short bike ride to Karlo & Hubb Creek Wineries(1km) with over a dozen others all within a 5 to 10 minute drive.

As well as wineries there are also many vintage and antique shops to explore.

The Taste Trail and The Arts Trail are something to look into prior to your trip as they are a great way to see all that the county has to offer in both food and art.

The Wellington Farmer's Market happens every Saturday right on beautiful Lake Ontario.

The historic town of Bloomfield is a 15 minute drive to the East and boasts a main street of small boutiques, the Kin Cafe, The Agrarian restaurant and the best ice cream you'll ever taste (we highly recommend the flavour called campfire).

The Sandbanks Provincial Park is a must see and is a 25 minute drive away.

The beautiful, historic Millennium Trail is only minutes away.

We have lovely neighbors all around us, that you may or may not encounter. Across the street is a lovely horse facility "Hadherway Farms" which offers equestrian riding lessons. Being on a country road we just say be aware of speedy idiots. Every county has a few.
