Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Riverfront. Vineyard views. A light-filled cottage set within open farmland.

Pip’s Place sits on Lisdillon Estate, overlooking the rivulet as it bends toward Great Oyster Bay, with vineyard rows just outside the windows and access to private beaches along over 4km of private coastline.

Days move easily between cottage, deck and water — slow mornings, long light, and space in every direction.

Positioned on Tasmania’s East Coast, 25 minutes from the Maria Island ferry and 1 hour to Freycinet.

The space
Pip’s Place is a relocated Hydro building from the 1960s, set lightly within the vineyard and surrounding farmland.

Recently refreshed, the cottage is simple and open, with wide views across the estate, river and bay.

The main living space opens onto a generous deck — an easy place to sit with a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine as the light shifts across the property.

A short walk leads to the rivulet, where a quiet stretch of waterfront offers a place to sit as black swans drift past. The water is calm and well suited to swimming or kayaking, with the estate’s private beaches just beyond at its mouth.

From here, the river and surrounding paddocks draw in birdlife — swans, pelicans and, at times, wedge-tailed eagles.

Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed and functional, with a wood fire, books and board games for quieter evenings.

Two bedrooms, along with a sunroom that can be used as a third bedroom, accommodate up to five guests. The main bedroom has a queen bed overlooking the river and vineyard, and the second room has two singles. The main bathroom includes a shower, bath and toilet, with a second, separate powder room.

The kitchen is generous and well-equipped for cooking, with an espresso machine and a barbecue on the deck.

Lisdillon Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc are available to order, with bottles delivered to the cottage during your stay.

Pip's Place is one of several stays across Lisdillon Estate. Multiple cottages can be booked together for those travelling as a group, while still retaining a sense of space and privacy.

Guest access
Guests have access to Lisdillon Estate — a historic landscape of vineyards and farmland, stretching along the wide expanse of Puthimiluna, Great Oyster Bay.

From the cottage, follow tracks to the rivulet and out to the shoreline, where three beaches sit along the bay. Two are privately owned by the estate, extending to the low water mark, while the southernmost — Saltworks Beach — is public, but largely undisturbed.

The lagoon at the river mouth has gentle waters suited to families, with black swans and pelicans often moving across the water. The beaches offer clear water for swimming, with good snorkelling around Mitchell’s Reef. Just beyond, the old jetty posts stand along the shore, weathered remnants of the estate’s past.

For surfers, Lisdillon offers a fun reef break when conditions align, with left and right waves and the chance of an uncrowded surf out front.

The river offers calm water for swimming, kayaking and fishing, with a few rods available to use. You may find bream, trevally, Australian salmon, brown trout or eels, among others.

The surrounding landscape opens to longer walks across farmland and coastline. A short walk upstream leads to a deeper swimming spot known as the Black Pool.

Kayaks are available on the river, and bikes can be borrowed to explore the property.

This is a place to move slowly through, or simply settle into.

Other things to note
Lisdillon is a historic coastal property, and part of its character comes with a few practical considerations:

– The cottage is single level, with a small internal step
– Grounds are natural (grass, gravel and stone) and may be uneven
– Water is filtered river or tank water, safe to drink
– Wi-Fi is available; mobile reception varies
– Wildlife is common, particularly at dusk
– The property operates as a working farm
– The nearest towns (Swansea and Triabunna) are around 20–30 minutes away, so we recommend picking up groceries before arriving
– There is no washing machine at the cottage; a laundromat is available in Swansea

Please move gently through the landscape and follow signage across the property. We ask guests to respect the land and help us care for it during their stay.

Date modifications are not accepted within 5 days of arrival.

Lisdillon Estate lends itself to small gatherings, celebrations and weddings. If you’re considering something like this, please get in touch prior to booking — we can assist with options. Additional arrangements and fees may apply, and events are subject to prior approval.

Neighborhood highlights

Lisdillon is a 6000-acre working sheep farm and vineyard. The estate includes three secluded beaches as well as the reef off the main beach and a rivulet and estuary. Featuring unrivalled views of The Hazzards, Freycinet National Park, and Maria Island.

Back in the day (1830), the land once housed a small but thriving township. The sheep farm,19th-century cottages and sprawling native land are living reminders of Lisdillon’s rich history. Now home to an award-winning vineyard and boutique accommodation, Lisdillon is the perfect balance of past and present Tasmania.

Make the most of the expansive lands by walking, swimming, fishing or bringing your kayaks and exploring the river and coastline.

Or if you fancy a venture beyond the estate, eat at one of the local cafes or restaurants in Swansea, Triabunna or Orford (all within half an hour's drive). The award-winning restaurant Piermont is only a ten-minute drive. Other local adventures include whale watching, bike riding, quad bike touring, and more.

All in all, Lisdillon is the perfect escape for individual travellers, couples, families, or friends. In fact, many of our guests describe Lisdillon as one of the most beautiful places they have seen on their visit to Australia.
