Useful Information about the Accommodation;

The Kitchen ~
The kitchen is fully equipped with a large choice of cooking utensils, including coffee machine, blender, sandwich/waffle maker. Above the gas hob, there is a small stainless steel bar, which when you pull this out, activates the extractor fan with 3 different speeds. The freezer has a special ice tray drawer at the very top, and there should be ice already made. There are three bins under the sink, for recycling, compostable waste and black bag landfill. In the garden by the side gate are the recycling bin, yellow lid, the black bag bin, and near the large gate, the compost bin is next to the hedge. The fire extinguisher is in the far right cupboard below the drawer. If there is anything you need that has not been provided, please don’t hesitate to ask me and I will do my best to meet your needs.

The Living Room ~
The TV has a wide choice of channels, there are board games in the drawer beneath. The large sofa is a sofa bed for use when there are more than 4 occupants.

The Bathroom ~
With bath and shower curtains to use when showering, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner provided. Your towels will have been put on your beds. In the cupboard and drawers you will also find a bath pillow, hairdryer and extra toilet paper. Please do not flush anything else down the toilet as the house has a septic tank system, a bin is provided for any other waste.

The Laundry area ~
In the laundry area on the ground floor, you have a Hoover 11kg capacity washing machine, deep utility sink and tall storage cupboard containing the hoover, broom, mops, cleaning materials, washing liquid and iron. In the cupboard to the right of the sink you will find beachtowels, a cotton beach blanket, parasol and a 4 person set of badminton rackets.
The programme ALL-IN-ONE, 2 turns to the left on the washing machine is very useful, you can choose 30 or 40 degrees and a spin speed up to 1400. All items likes towels and sheets are now known to be hygenic after washing at 40 degrees, and this also saves energy; but of course you can choose the programme that suits you. The instructions for the machine are in the drawer to the right of the sink, as is a first aid kit.

The air conditioning & heating system ~
The air conditioning units can all be used, or simply one or two as you need. The very important thing to know about this, is that all the units must be set to the same function mode and temperature. You can’t have different temperatures in different rooms as this confuses the external heat pump exchanger circuit. So, if you decide to raise or lower the temperature you require, you must do this for all the units that are switched on. Equally if you decide to change to automatic mode, all of the units must be in this same function mode. The instruction manual is in the kitchen drawer to the far right of the stove. If it stops working, please tell me and I will cut the power in order to re-set the system.

Neighborhood highlights

Blasimon is a 14th century fortified Bastide, with arcades around the central square. Throughout the summer, every Wednesday evening from July 14 to August 15, there is a gourmet food market in the square. You can sample fine local traditional food, with live music and dancing completing the jolly atmosphere.

There are many local food markets and other medieval towns to visit within close distance, the world reknowned Saint-Emilion just under 20kms, as well as Sauveterre de Guyenne, Pujols, Rauzan, with it's chateaux and cave, Libourne. Slightly farther, Bordeaux (48km), Sainte-Foy-le-Grande, Monsegur, La Reole, Langon and Duras.

The local nature reserve of the "Domaine Départemental Volny Favory", a protected area since 2012, is less than 1km away from the house by foot, or a quick 3 minute drive, which offers a hilly and wooded environment for nature lovers. Comprising of 50-hectares of woodland and including a 7-hectare lake, part of which is reserved for swimming, and the other for fishing and nautical activities. The natural and cultural heritage of Blasimon; forest, abbey, old water mill, bastide, is highlighted through the hiking trails along the rivers Gamage and Treynem, enjoyable on foot or by bike.

You can also join the cycle route of the Canal des Deux Mers 7km south of Blasimon at Sauveterre de Guyenne (another of the 8 Bastide towns of the Gironde); a cycle route that connects the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. The route of 750 km, goes along the Gironde Estuary, the Canal de Garonne and the Canal du Midi, and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to discover unforgettable sites and landscapes.

At the bottom of the valley, just below the village of Blasimon, lie the majestic remains of a Benedictine abbey of the 12th and 13th centuries, possession of the abbey of Sauve-Majeure in 1166. The abbey church of Saint-Nicolas adjoined to the south by convent buildings partially in ruins (including the chapter house), is a large rectangular room with four rib-vaulted bays. Around 1150, the facade and the first bay of the nave were rebuilt and connected to an old construction of the 11th century from the second bay. At the end of the 12th century and at the beginning of the 13th century, the building took on its final appearance. The walls were rebuilt and stiffened with new buttresses and the church was covered with ribbed vaults. The two-storey facade has a portal and side arches whose sculpture is one of the most delicate in Gironde. The Abbey church and ruins were classified as Historic Monuments (1925).
