Old Shepherd's Cottage is a renovated traditional Irish cottage on a mountain sheep farm 3km from the bustle of Clifden town and the Wild Atlantic Way driving route. This beautiful tranquil location is off the beaten track but still close to shops, restaurants and pubs in Clifden town. This is the perfect location for exploring Connemara and all it has to offer.
The space
This spacious cottage has 3 bedrooms comfortably sleeping 5 people. On the ground floor there is a double bedroom, a single bedroom, living room, kitchen and main bathroom. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. The upstairs bedroom is accessed by a small spiral staircase.
The front door opens to a large living/dining area with traditional fireplace containing a multi-fuel stove at the heart of the room. The cottage combines many traditional features with modern conveniences including multi-fuel stove, electric heating, hot water, washing machine, clothes dryer, a fully equipped kitchen with electric cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave and everything you need to cook your own meals.
There is free WiFi, a smart TV, board games and a large selection of books. Cot is available on request. There is an outside patio with barbecue and outdoor seating.
The house is in a very scenic rural setting, surrounded by fields sweeping down to the Owenglen river. There are no other houses visible from the cottage - the sheep are your closest neighbours!
Guest access
You will have sole access to the cottage and garden during your stay.
Other things to note
The cottage is located approximately 2km from the main road on a single-lane country road. The last section of the road (about 200m) is unpaved and quite rough. It is necessary to drive slowly and carefully there.
You can park right outside the house.
The house is not wheelchair accessible - there is a small step between the living room and kitchen on the ground floor. The upstairs bedroom is accessed by a small spiral staircase.
We accept pets. Maximum 2 dogs.
Please keep dogs under control as there are often sheep in the fields surrounding the house.
