Where you’ll be

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Ocean Park is located between Condado and Isla Verde beaches making it an essential tranquil, tree-lined streets residential neighborhood, with numerous examples of single family homes from the decades between 1930 and 1950. Small Bed & Breakfast Inns which blend in with the residential community also dot the area.

Ocean Park Beach
Its wide ocean front and offshore reefs prevent large waves from reaching the beach, which is popular with trendy beachgoers. Strong seasonal onshore trade winds make the area popular for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Of course, lounging on the sand is a favorite, if you don’t have an umbrella and you’d like a shaded spot, there are palm and almond trees along the beach. There are also several lounge chair rental spots (next to Numero Uno Guest House on the East Side and next to El Parque del Indio towards the West Side of the beach) offering lounge chairs and umbrellas for a minor fee.

McLeary Ave
Right through the center runs Avenida McLeary where cafes and pubs line up the street. The European Spanish influenced Kasalta Bakery, located in this street is a local institution visited by the likes of President Obama and Hillary Clinton and is also one of the best bakeries in the entire island.

Loiza Street (Calle Loiza)
Parallel to Avenida McLeary is La Calle Loiza -Loiza Street- stretches between the tourist hubs of Condado and Isla Verde. Over time, Loiza Street came to be known as the neighborhood’s “Main Street,” the heart of a working-class commercial district and a social haven. Today, it features just enough grittiness and modern indie color for the local bohemian youth to claim it as their playground, with pawn shops, discount stores, fast food joints, and retro beauty salons mingling alongside the brightly-muraled façades of vegetarian cafés, up-and-coming design ateliers, and trendy bars. At night, the crowd on the street changes from the coffeehouse and shopping set to groups of partiers. They like to hang out at Silk, Funky Budha, Grass, Tantalo, Piola, Bar-Bero and many many other restaurants, bars and after hours. There is also The Bear Tavern a fun bar for the gay crowd featuring theme nights, karaoke, dance music and tapas.
