Neighborhood highlights
The home is set in the picturesque village of Beddgelert in a valley at the confluence of the River Glaslyn and River Colwyn, and is just a few minutes walk to the centre of the village where you will find a selection of shops, restaurants and pubs (and a gelato ice cream shop that can’t be missed).
Set in the heart of Snowdonia, it is flanked by mountains to the West by Moel Hebog and the Nantlle Ridge and to the North by a series of hills rising to the top of Snowdon via several nearby challenging trails including the Rhyd Dhu and Snowdon Ranger paths to the South West, and the Watkin Path to the East of Snowdon. North of Snowdon visit Tryfan and the Glyders, the former being one of the most exciting mountains to scramble up and used by mountaineers prepare to climb Mount Everest.
There are several lower level walks either north along the river Glaslyn past the old Sygun Copper mine to the tranquil Lake Glaslyn where you can skim stones, take a dip or kayak, or south to the raging Glaslyn gorge where the river flows over several rapids and falls along the route of the Welsh Highland Steam railway which emerges from tunnels within the mountains, and return home through the several miles of ancient woodlands that you can also bike through.
Steeped in Welsh folklore, explore Gelerts grave, Prince Llywelyn the Greats dog whose 13th century story is associated with the village. Towards Lake Glaslyn, walk the legendary National Trust trail of Dinas Emrys, along waterfalls and beautiful Oak woodland to find the summit and site of King Vortigern’s castle (named in honour of Myrddin Emrys (Merlin) who helped to release the two dragons from the hill). From here, you can see breathtaking views of lake Glaslyn, where it is believed that Arthur had Bedivere throw Excalibur.
Take a mountain drive (or even the Steam train) and have a day out to some local towns and villages. Llanberis is home to Electric Mountain, the National Slate Museum and also the start of the Llanberis path and steam train up to the summit of Snowdon. Betws Y Coed is home to the famous Swallow Waterfalls and is the home of Zip World where you can either zip line or bounce through the trees. Visit the historic towns of Conwy or Caenarfan and meander through their historic streets or visit their Castles, or while away a few hours catching crabs along the quay. Visit the coast which is just 15minutes away, and walk along miles of beautiful sandy beaches at towns from Barmouth, to Harlech and Criccieth.
