Some info has been automatically translated.
The Obergasteigalm is a cozy, lovingly maintained jewel in the valley end of the Winkeltal: Volkzein hiking paradise. Beautiful days for two, with the family or Friends away from everyday stress without internet/phone. Cozy barbecue and chill evenings with fire bowl. If the cooking spoon is to rest, retreat to the cultivated Volkzeinerhütte. Warm shower and light available.
In July, we cultivate our fields (are nearby).

No fridge.
[Not in winter]

The space
This is an alpine hut whose roof truss was built or renovated in 1850. For decades, the hut served as accommodation for the senior generation of the Gasteighof, who herded the cows there in the summer.
- Downstairs stable and water trough, 2nd floor living area, attic with extra beds.
- There is running drinking water in the kitchen and bathroom.
- Only the kitchen can be heated (wood-burning stove, wood available)
- The kitchen is traditionally a dining and living room. People used to spend the day working outdoors, which is why there was no need for a living room.
- In the kitchen there is everything for cooking.
- In July, we are often at the hut during the day for the hay harvest, in the area of the outside bench (so you are not completely alone)

Guest access
The whole hut is at your disposal.
During the alpine hay work, we are busy in the vicinity of the hut and may sit outside on the bench (2nd - 4th week of July).

Other things to note
The Obergasteigalm is located at 1900 m above sea level.
There are no food supplies on the Alm. It is a self-catering cabin.
There is no refrigerator, but in the meantime food can be stored in the approx. 8°C cold fountain.

At these altitudes of the Alps, there are also venomous snakes (e.g. cross otter). Sturdy shoes or rubber boots for children are therefore recommended for carefree romping in the outdoor area.

There is no heating. In early and late summer, it can be very cool.
Local tax included.

Neighborhood highlights

At the end of the Winkeltal valley (13 km from the village center of Außervillgraten, 23 km from Sillian train station) there are six alpine huts. The Volkzeinerhütte is managed.
The Obergasteigalm is the starting point for countless short to long hikes to the peaks of the Villgrater mountains, which are up to 2951 m high. The Volkzein is a stopover on the Herz-Ass hiking trail.
The highest peaks (Hochgrabe, Degenhorn, Hochalmspitz, etc.) can be reached in about 3-4 hours of hiking, medium heights (Falkamsee, Schrentebach) in 2 hours, the Heimkar in 1 hour. There is a walking tour along the Winkeltalbach stream in the valley floor.
Along the stream, children will find harmless space to discover the element of water.
