The space
Completely furnished and updated throughout with sun-blocking, routeless blinds for the late risers; new appliances, countertops, and lighting fixtures.

The flat-screen, full-motion television comes with Chromecast, so you can project from any of your devices onto the TV screen, and basic local cable. The collapsible desk and fold-away chair are space savers and are helpful for when you have to get some work done (or work outside - the signal should be strong enough from anywhere on the property). Full-body, mirrored closet door (including an iron and ironing board) will help you get looking sharp from head to toe, and there’s a dual-climate window unit (heating + cooling) to keep you comfortable in the hot Arizona summer and surprisingly cool desert nights in the winter.

Beds: One queen bed and one fold-out futon (please ask for a second set of sheets/blankets and we’re happy to provide)

Bath: Basic cosmetics provided ( shampoo, conditioner, lotion)

Kitchen: Fully equipped with refrigerator, electric range/oven, microwave, coffee-maker. Pots, pans, and baking ware for the culinary inclined.

Outside: please feel free to respectfully enjoy the space - which is shared with the main house - you are welcome to rest and relax in the hammock or lounge chairs, sip drinks under the patio, fire up the charcoal grill, or take a dip in the pool while the sun sets and the sky turns incredible shades of purple, red, orange, and yellow.

PLEASE NOTE: the main home is also a BnB. Outside amenities are shared, but both properties are entirely private and separate from one another.

Lastly, we find the cleaning to be expensive at most AirBnbs where the owner isn’t cleaning themselves. We both work, so we have to pay someone to turn the unit. Our team has been with us for years and is a great value for the work they do. That said, our cleaning fee is 100% a pass-along that goes to the team to help keep us running (and not another source of revenue for us).

Guest access
This listing is for the casita, located in the rear of our house. You have free reign of the back yard and are welcome to enjoy use of the pool and lounge chairs, hammock, fire pit, and covered patio.

Other things to note
Due to allergies, we do not allow animals on-site, no exceptions for service animals or emotional support animals.

Neighborhood highlights

Our home is located a little over 1 mile from the quickly up-and-coming, art-oriented, family friendly downtown of Mesa (the 35th largest city by population in the US - bigger than Miami, St. Louis, and Minneapolis!).

The listing is in a quiet, historic neighborhood where most families have lived for 10-15+ years. Parts of Mesa, like some other long-established areas in Phoenix, were granted rights to water from nearby canals which enabled people to use irrigation to grow a variety of plants. Arizona’s economy is driven partly by citrus (as well as copper, cattle, cotton, technology, aerospace, and tourism) but you’ll see oaks, pines, and plenty of native species such as mesquite and acacia. The diversity of trees in Mesa means you have a good chance of being treated to a chorus of bird songs in the early morning and in the evenings.

Lives in Mesa, Arizona
Hello, thanks for being interested in learning a little more about us! Anita is from central Kenya, and Aaron grew up in central Kentucky. Fate brought us together a decade ago when Aaron was serving in Kenya as a US Peace Corps Volunteer. We’ve used AirBnB as travelers for years and always enjoyed the local vibes we got, the opportunity to connect with hosts along the way, and the chance to see a place through a more authentic lens than a hotel affords. When we moved to Arizona and finally got the opportunity to buy a place, we knew right away that we wanted to participate in the other side of this wonderful ecosystem. Between the two of us, we’ve traveled throughout Europe, East Africa, Turkey, Israel, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago, Canada, and all over the US. We are reasonably seasoned travelers and hosts, and we hope and believe we have a fairly good bead on what makes for an enjoyable BnB experience (but we’re all ears on any suggestions to improve!). We’re looking forward to meeting you, so if you have any specific questions about us, our listings, or Arizona in general, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
