Originally built in 1995, this a-frame lodge was once a rustic hunting and fishing cabin. It lived many years as a seasonal property before evolving into what you see today. It sits amongst 5 peaceful acres of towering maple trees. We invite you to detach, slow down, rest, explore, create and enjoy each other’s company.
The space
This cozy and rustic year-round retreat is ideal for couples but fits up to 4-5 people looking for a place to detach. Our Northern Knotty is close to many of Northern Michigan's most beautiful year-round attractions, however, appeals just as much to those who plan to hunker in for a cozy night at the cabin. Light a fire in the wood stove and snuggle up with a good book. Or maybe putting on a record and cooking a meal is more your tune!
✮ You’ll find a kitchen with all of your cooking necessities (no dishwasher). Enjoy the stocked coffee and tea bar, cozy seating in the living room around the wood stove, and dining table. We have plenty of books, games, records, and DVDs to enjoy.
✮ On the main floor across from the bathroom is a bunk room containing narrow twin bunkbeds.
✮ The bathroom has a small standing shower (no tub - please note the shower measures roughly 30”x32”) and a wall heater.
✮ A narrow staircase leads to the open loft / primary bedroom where you will find a queen size bed.
✮ The mudroom is the perfect drop-zone for all of your supplies. The washer and dryer is available for your use.
✮ Both the main cabin and mudroom are climate-controlled (heat and cooling) by a mini-split. A winter retreat? Heat rises so we suggest having experience using a wood stove to keep the main level toasty during your stay.
✮ There is an outdoor fire pit with four Adirondack chairs available during the non-snow seasons. The patio has a picnic table with an umbrella and a grill (propane included). There are two hammock hooks just past the fire pit; hammocks & yoga mats can be found in their bags inside the rope basket in the mudroom - namaste! 🧘♀️
✮ We decorate the home during the holiday season to ensure a cozy experience. ❄️ 🌲 Christmas decor is put up late November and taken down after Christmas.
✮ Our cabin is in a wooded setting and we let nature do its thing ~ 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙫𝙖𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙨.
✮ There is plenty of parking for your ORVs, snowmobiles and trailers! However, we are also on a single track dirt road so pulling them into the driveway is at your discretion.

✮ Pets and Pet Fee ✮
✔️ Up to 2 medium-size dogs are allowed at the cabin (hosts are allergic to cats, sorry) and they MUST be housebroke and good mannered.
✔️ Please keep dogs in a crate if they will be left at the cabin unattended - this helps protects your fur baby and our personal property. The mudroom is a great climate controlled space for this.
✔️ Please be respectful and pick up your dog's waste, especially in the driveway.
✔️ The pet fee is $50. This covers labor and supplies for deep cleaning.

✮✮✮ IMPORTANT: OTHER DETAILS: ✮✮✮
✔️ 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤 𝙒𝙞-𝙁𝙞 𝙖𝙫𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙮 - talk about truly detaching, right? A personal hotspot would be needed if this is a requirement for you (or use your phone as a mobile hot spot). Verizon and T-Mobile has service, however, we have heard AT&T is limited. Because of the lack of WIFI, the cabin has no cable TV.
✔️ Hunting, fireworks, and parties are not allowed.
✔️ We do our best to keep firewood 🪵 stacked, however, we **don’t guarantee it**. Most of our stacked wood is outside so during the winter months you’ll need to purchase dry wood.
✔️ While our cabin feels very secluded, we still have neighbors within earshot and visual in the distance during the winter. You WILL likely hear ATVs, snowmobiles or gunfire at some point during your stay.
☞ ☞ ☞ Our neighbors also set off (what we believe to be) a firecracker to keep large wildlife out of the area usually in the mornings. It helps keeps you and your pups safe during your explorations of the property as bear has been spotted in the area. **This is VERY, VERY normal in Northern Michigan.** 𝙋𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙧𝙚-𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨.
✔️ You have full access to the cabin and our five wooded acres. The property boundaries are marked, so feel free to take a scenic stroll amongst our property. Please be mindful and respectful of neighboring properties, especially during October - December (hunting season).
✔️ No smoking of any kind is allowed inside the cabin. Smoking outside is fine, but please dispose of your trash responsibly.
✔️ We have board games, a TV with several DVD's, books, yoga mats, snow shoes, lawn games, and more!
✔️ This home is located on a single-track private dirt road. It may be muddy, snowy, etc. While we do have a reliable company who plows, please ensure your vehicle can accommodate this. Please wear shoes meant for snowy weather, as we don't guarantee the steps will be shoveled (shovel at the top of the steps).
✔️ The cabin can get chilly in the winter and spring ~ typical of Northern Michigan! ❄️ You’ll more than likely want to keep a fire going in the wood stove for a cozy temperature. 𝙒𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙡𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙬𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙖 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙮 𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝𝙨 - wet wood & pine WILL smoke up.
✔️ Please note this home is located on 5 heavily wooded acres - you will likely encounter bugs/mosquitos and occasional wildlife. We have 4 LOCKED bait boxes on the exterior of our property. Although it’s very unlikely access could be gained without a key, please keep an eye on your pets & kiddos.
✔️ A queen air mattress & sheets are provided for additional sleeping arrangements if needed.
✔️ A Pack N' Play equipped with a changing table is also available for your use. Guests are responsible for inspecting/cleaning the Pack N' Play and all attachments before use, as well as the set up & tear down.
