Our Mt Laurel Cabin is nestled among the Mountain Laurel in the woods near the top of the hill. It's a magical setting where you are surrounded by Mt. Laurel branches which line the walls and arch over your bed! Included with this cabin is the unique and spaciuous Rustic Kitchen for all of your cooking and indoor dining needs.
The bathroom is a separate building (2-3 min walk) with a composting toilet and a hot water shower. This bathroom is shared with two other cabins.
The space
ABOUT THE CABIN:
Our rustic Mountain Laurel Cabin is a favorite among guests. Voted Most Romantic, the cabin is nestled down in a glen providing plenty of privacy and all the green you can gather in! You will most certainly feel like you’re in a little love nest the way that the Mountain Laurel branches provide interesting structure along the inside walls of the cabin.
This is a single screened in room with a double bed, wicker bench, table, battery powered string lights and drinking water. This cabin is the most magnificent in the morning when the first rays of sun stream in through the dense foliage. This cabin is located behind the Rustic Kitchen which is for the exclusive use of this cabin.
This cabin is off grid, and does not have electricity. We do provide a couple of portable/table top style LED lights, as well as fairy lights in the cabin.
Kitchen:
The Rustic Kitchen (RK) is a separate, yurt style building about 100 feet away from the Mountain Laurel cabin. The RK features a stove, grill, drinking water, a sink with running water (non potable), sponge and soap for washing/cooking. There is a picnic table inside, as well as bar style seating.
Each cabin is given a cooler which we stock with ice before your arrival.
There is a french press available, make sure your coffee is pre-ground.
The basics for grilling, utensils, cups and plates are all provided as is salt pepper and oil. We provide dish towels and paper towels. A head lamp is recommended for nighttime cooking.
It is very important that you do not leave food out unattended. Birds, mice and squirrels will very likely get into it. Even food that is in a plastic bag is at risk so your best bet is to keep everything in the cooler.
Trash and Recycling:
There is trash and recycling available at each cabin. We ask that when you check out from your cabin you ensure that your trash is in the can and the lid is fitted. If you’ve made more then can fit in the can please use the spare bags provided and leave them in the cabins. If they are left outside animals may rip the bags open and strew trash around. We really appreciate you keep your recycling clean and separate from your trash. Everything can be left at your campsite and we will retrieve it.
Lighting:
We tell people that there is no electric but sometimes the reality of this doesn’t quite sink in until it’s dark and you’re in the woods.
We do provide a couple of portable/table top style LED lights, as well as fairy lights in the cabin.
We recommend that you bring additional lights and head lamps, but please keep in mind that we DO NOT ALLOW CANDLES or other flame sourced lighting.
Some cabins also have solar lights set up. If it has been cloudy for a few days they may not work and even if it has been sunny they won’t have enough juice to stay on all night. They turn on automatically at dusk and shut off when they run out of juice.
Bathroom and Shower:
The bathroom has composting toilet and hot water shower. It is located a short distance from the cabin (1-2 min walk) and is shared with two other cabins.
Please try to use environmentally friendly bath products such as castille soap. We do not provide any shower products, and each guest is provided with one towel.
Fires:
There is a fire pit located next to the cabin. Fire wood is available to purchase for $10/bundle. Firewood is located on a rack by the bathroom.
If you bring wood it MUST be purchased in Connecticut per state law.
If we are having a particularly dry summer and there is a state wide fire ban, we will be enforcing this. We also ask that if it is extremely windy you refrain from having fires.
Fires can ONLY be made in designated fire pits and must be extinguished properly with either water or sand. Please this is very important as even a fire that looks out can spread sparks if a wind picks up.
Cars:
You are able to drive up the mountain to yur cabin, but we ask that you minimize trips as much as possible for the safety of hikers and other potential vehicles using the one-lane road.
Cell Service and WiFi:
There is complimentary wifi at the base of the mountain. WiFi: Moss Mountain Guest - Password: lovehasahomehere. There is a charging station for phones as well. Verizon gets service at the base of the mountain and immediate area. Most other carriers get service at the top of the hill where the cabins are located.
You will not be able to connect to the wifi from your cabin unless you are staying in the River House Boat. Please keep in mind that as you approach the farm you may lose service. This can affect your gps and your ability to contact us. For this reason it is very important that you text us when you are 20-30 minutes away.
Dogs:
As this is a refugee for wildlife we humbly ask that you don’t bring dogs or other pets and that you don’t ask us if you can.
True service animals are protected by the law and are considered working animals and guests themselves. We only ask that you let us know you will be bringing a service animal.
Check in:
This is noted in our check in policy but in case that gets missed!
We will message you the morning of your check in day for your approximate eta. We ask that you keep us posted if your travel time changes and that you send us a final message when you are 20-30 minutes away. This is very important as we do not have a staffed check in desk.
When you arrive you can park on either the right or left lot and walk on up to the stone barn for a meet and greet. We understand traffic and unforeseeable circumstances happen so we ask that you do your best to keep us updated and arrive between our 2pm and 9 pm window.
Early check ins as well as late check outs are free and welcome as long as the request is made at the time of booking. Late arrivals will be charged a fee of $25/hr for each hour after 9pm. We DO NOT OFFER CHECK IN after 12pm!
We host an outdoor school and a summer camp. If you arrive during pickup M-F 2:30pm - 4pm - it can be crowded.

60 acres of woods, trails, river, ponds, unique structures, 54' moss and stone Chartre Labyrinth and a zig zag path on Moss Mountain. Please be advised that while we have two ponds during times of drought the water level may be too low to allow for swimming.

Sticks and Stones Farm is located on the land of the Pootatuck and Paugussett people. All who work and live here now strive to create a container of love, contemplation, and joy! We hope you feel inspired to do the same and leave here feeling emboldened to follow your bliss.
You'll find an extensive network of trails spanning our 60 acres. Take time to explore them and you’ll surely come across some magic. There is a Stone Labyrinth along the Pootatuck River, a place perfect for crawfish hunting. Be sure to also discover the magical Moss Walk which weaves up Moss Mountain. We sell and install our moss and boulders for gardens on a large and small scale.
Even though it's serene here we still have A LOT going on!
A number of non profits work cooperatively on this land. On the weekdays we're swarming with kids from Two Coyotes Wilderness School as they learn how to track animals and start fires. Real Food Share manages our century bio intensive garden with the aim of getting more fresh produce to those who are food insecure. Love Has a Home hosts a variety of healing events from film screenings to drum circles. Rowanwood Farm brings her llamas here for people to walk through the woods with.
