Enjoy staying in two beautifully traditional tatami-style rooms. Your friendly English and Japanese speaking host (who also knows a bit of Spanish and Mandarin) inhabits the same house and will be happy to provide information on the surrounding area, recommendations, and anything else within his abilities.

The space
This home was built by a family that owned and ran an attached liquor store. The 2 Japanese style rooms have been preserved in their original state, and are an excellent example of Japanese "wa-shitsu" with an alcove, ranma, sliding paper doors and windows as well as excellent woodwork. The beds are traditional Japanese "futon" that are soft with warm comfortable blankets.

I only host one group at a time, so whether you are traveling alone or in a group of 4, you will be the only guests. Of course this is my house where I live, so I will also be there. (This is also required by the new Japanese law.) The house is large enough that guests can enjoy privacy despite my presence.

The location is a very residential area about a 25-30 minute walk from Morioka station. It is 5 minutes from a bus stop. A taxi from Morioka station takes about 7 minutes and roughly 1,000 yen. Depending on arrival time and my schedule, I am often happy to provide a ride to or from the station when you first arrive and when you depart if necessary.

There is a supermarket about 3 minutes from the house, and a Lawson 24-hour convenience store is 500 meters away. Also within easy walking distance is Pyon-pyon-sha, one of the most famous places to eat Morioka Reimen and enjoy Korean BBQ. There are a couple other nice and inexpensive restaurants nearby, though the main eating and drinking area is on the other side of Morioka Station.

Guest access
Free fast Wi-Fi!
Two bathrooms, and a shower room with a bathtub.
Feel free to prepare your own meals in the kitchen if you like. (I will also be using the kitchen.)
One (and sometimes two if I'm not using it) old Japanese-style "mama-chari" bicycle available for free guest use.
There are a couple of living rooms with tables and a TV.
**Now a newly renovated large cafe-style area ideal for relaxing, talking, planning or doing work on a laptop.

During your stay
I do Airbnb because I enjoy meeting travelers from around the world. It gives this remote area of Japan an international accent that is quite welcome. So basically I do enjoy talking with guests and am overjoyed to share my love of northern Japan through recommendations of both sightseeing locations and good places to eat and drink.
However- should you be the type that would prefer to keep to yourself, I'm also fine with that and am happy to give guests space if that's what I detect they prefer. (I write this after 3 years of Airbnb, and I can generally detect from the demeanor of guests if I should offer suggestions or step back.)
Of course I am sometimes too busy with work to do more than the bare minimum of help. But as I work from home I am generally around to provide any necessary assistance.

Where you’ll be

Morioka, Iwate-ken, Japan

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood about a 10-minute walk from the Shizukuishi River, and 25 minutes from Morioka station. There is also a supermarket about a 3 minute walk away. A few rather delicious restaurants are also within walking distance though the main bulk of the nightlife and the commercial center are on the other side of Morioka station.
(As this is distant from Morioka station, I try to make myself available to pick up guests, particularly when it is a group of 2 or more, upon their arrival.) Taxis are inexpensive and quick. A taxi from the station to my house is about 1,000 yen roughly and takes around 7 or 8 minutes.

Lives in Morioka, Japan
I was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin- the Berkeley of the Midwest. I've been living in Japan since the year 2000, though I was in Tokyo until 2010. I'm fluent and literate in Japanese. (So I can help you interface here if you'd like.) I've recently started a Youtube Channel called GoNorth Japan to promote some of the gorgeous outdoor areas around here - all within day-tripping range of my house. Take a look and subscribe! (Airbnb blocks URLS, so just search for "GoNorth Japan" on Youtube to find it.)
