Extra spacious

Great location

Guests who stayed here in the past year loved the location.
Over 4000 sq ft. of space with tons of light, views and historic character.

Four large bedrooms, two baths, a kitchen — and an absolutely enormous loft-like open space not to mention 15 foot ceilings, make for an experience unlike any other in Big Sky country. A raised area all along the south windows would be the instant focus for entertaining and also an endless source of inspiration as a sitting room or even a home office.

The space
Originally built to house the “manual arts” department at Butte High School, the building lost its purpose when the high school moved in 1938. (The main old high school building burned to the ground in 1946.) During World War II the Manual Arts Building served as a military induction center, and later would house the Butte Business College. Then, for years, the nearby Masonic Temple used it for its youth programs, DeMolay and Rainbow Girls.

Because of the building’s original construction as a school facility, the stairways are immense, more than eight feet wide. Everywhere, the light streams in — more and more as you go to the upper floors.

Guest access
Please note the loft is on the 4th floor of this building and requires some significant climbing up the large sets of stairs. If you or anyone in your party are not comfortable with this set up, our place might not be the best for you. Access into the building is a set code that will be given out the day of your arrival. There is another door (that will have a slightly different code for your security) to enter the loft space.

Other things to note
Although pets are welcome there is a $50 additional cleaning fee to ensure any guests that have pet allergies do not have any complications.

Neighborhood highlights

For more than a century, copper was king in Butte, Montana and this city became one of the world’s most important sources for the strategic metal. In the process, the wealth generated by mining and refining earned Butte, Montana the title “The Richest Hill on Earth.” Today, for all the right reasons, Butte, Montana remains the Richest Hill on Earth.

The headframes scattered across the Hill are symbols of this proud mining heritage. Called gallows frames by miners, they lowered men to work in the stopes below, and on the return trip to the surface they brought up the rock in the box. They are silent sentinels of the era of underground mining that punctuate the Butte landscape like steel exclamation points.

A walk among the many historic buildings evokes a clear sense of what it must have been like to live in Butte during the days when millionaires and miners alike lived and played hard in one of the West’s greatest cities. Together, from humble origins as a muddy mining boom camp, they built a shining city on a hill with the latest amenities that its vast wealth allowed.

Today, Butte, Montana is home to one of the nation’s largest National Historic Landmark Districts, with more than 4,000 historic structures scattered across the Hill. These include some of the country’s first tall buildings, elegant mansions, vintage Victorian homes, boarding houses and hotels, and miner’s cottages that once provided shelter for an estimated 100,000 people.

The Manual Arts Building is smack in the middle of Uptown Butte and all its history!

I love to travel, especially with our family of five...Between them and a couple businesses, I stay pretty busy. Usually found with a smile on my face, a ball of some sort in my hands, and my kids in tow. I am a pretty easy going guy, thanks for looking!
