The space
Featured Architectural Digest 11/2022

Madrigal House was envisioned as a New Orleans style estate in the Hudson Valley, with sumptuous furnishings, unexpected pieces and world-spanning art around every corner. Its grand, interconnected spaces are perfect for entertaining with friends and loved ones, but each room has also been designed with nooks and corners for curling up in a book or enjoying a quiet conversation. A bright kitchen feels like the center of the home, with perfect views over the pond to enjoy with your morning coffee. The fully wallpapered "crane room," dining room and "secret" bedroom bring a riot of color, drama and luxury - and will make you want to linger. Bedrooms are designed with quiet and comfort in mind, with black-out shades and spaces to easily take a quick Zoom. 17 large original windows invite daylight from all exposures and invite you to spy on deer or birdlife meandering the property. Step out the backdoor to a high deck comfortably furnished to take in the sunset.

DRIVING & PARKING

Other things to note
BATHROOMS
Please note that although we have 3 bathrooms only one is a Full Bathroom with a shower. The other is an en-suite powder room in the upstairs Primary bedroom and the third is a downstairs powder room.

PRIVACY
Madrigal House is in a small quiet neighborhood. However, this is a house from 1859 and is not sound proofed from room to room - so you may hear your friends/family in other rooms. During early spring, you may hear tractors along the road during the day as the prepare for planting season.

HEATING & COOLING
Madrigal House is 160 years old with two separate HVAC systems - one that heats/cools the bedrooms upstairs and a second that heats/cools the main floor and finished basement. However, the temperature in some rooms can get a bit cool during winter so we provide remote controlled space heaters and extra blankets.

PLEASE BE KIND TO OUR SEPTIC SYSTEM
In the bathroom, only flush toilet paper. Kindly dispose all other products into the trash, even the feminine "flushable” ones.

CAUTION: Please keep out of lake and refrain from walking along creek as you could fall and injure yourself.

GUEST VERIFICATION: If a guest has no reviews yet, we require Airbnb verifications of government ID, photo, phone, email, and to be at least 25 years of age.

HISTORY
Madrigal House was built in 1859 and has been undergoing a slow, steady, and loving restoration since 2020. It is a 3000+ square foot classic Greek Rival estate nestled down a winding, private driveway and overlooks a private lake. Madrigal House is an official historical preservation site.

Neighborhood highlights

At the end of our road is the amazing Hearty Roots Farm Store with local provisions open 7 days a week. Germantown’s main street is a 10 minutes drive; the charming town has everything you need from the delicious farm-to-table restaurant Gaskins; a cute local market called Otto's; a handful of independent shops and a wine and spirits shop. We’re 20 minutes from the hip town of Hudson, with wonderful restaurants and great antiquing and cultural events – as well as Rhinebeck. Discover quaint Tivoli (Bard College), and Red Hook both a 10 minutes drive away. Historic Olana is also nearby and worth a visit.
