Enter the suite by crossing a large water feature at the front of the Lynn Hall via a stone bridge.

The main living area, originally the Hall's first architectural office, features a 35 ft cantilevered ceiling with glass roof cut-outs that seamlessly transition into the front windows. A signature Hall fireplace is the main focal point amongst the original built-ins.

An updated en-suite bedroom features examples of Port Allegany’s glass history, including original fused glass block.

The space
The Lynn Hall property and nearby cottage are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and are considered early examples of Organic Modern architecture.

It was designed and built by Walter J. Hall –– a self-taught practitioner of the style. Carved out of the mountainside, Lynn Hall overlooks the Allegheny River valley, which considering the tools available in the ’30s presented quite a challenge. Ever the re-purposer, Hall used stone quarried from the property, leftover lumber from barns and recycled railroad tracks to construct the ultimate organic structure.

The first phase was completed in 1935. It was at this time that Walter’s innovative use of poured concrete and mosaic stonework was discovered by Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright would ask Walter to join the Fallingwater project as general manager and stone mason.

Guest access
As guest at Lynn Hall, you are welcome to explore the grounds of the property. For an in depth tour of the full property including the interior of the main building, historical over view and the legacy of Raymond Viner Hall's work, please refer to the quest guidebook.

Other things to note
The Lynn Hall property, along with the cottage, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and are a prime example of Early Organic Modern architecture. It was designed and built in the early 1930's by Walter J. Hall and his son Raymond Viner Hall. Walter also went on to be the primary builder for Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. You will find a lot of similarities between the two most notably the stonework.

We also offer guests staying on property a private in-depth tour. It covers the history of the building, the Hall's contribution to modern architecture and their connection to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater and ends in the main building with light refreshments and appetizers. The tour usually last 1.5 - 2 hours and costs $35 per person. It can be booked at a time of reservation.

Our on-going efforts to save this historic property is so that we may share Lynn Hall, its historical significance, while allowing guests an experiential stay. We ask that guests treat the spaces respectfully and review the house rules carefully.
