Please be aware that a big part of the charm of this place is the rural location. There are some challenges associated with being in a rural location to be aware of.

Firstly, the water that comes from the taps inside the cabin is not potable, it comes from the river and is UV filtered but intended for washing only. We provide you with at least 12L of drinking water during your three night stay, but you may want to bring additional drinking water, depending on how much you plan to use.

The cellular reception in the area is very weak (a perfect opportunity to disconnect!) for this reason, the cabin is equipped with satellite wifi. The rural wifi in this area is not the same speeds as we are accustomed to in urban areas. The speed seems to vary based on the weather. It is not intended for streaming and downloads, please only use it for web browsing and communication. We recommend downloading any content (music or movies) to your devices ahead of time.

Also, please note that due to the heavily forested surroundings, there are often power outages ranging from a few minutes to a few hours in duration. Whenever possible we notify guests of power outages in advance, but sometimes they occur without notice. Outages are typically less than an hour in duration. As the water is pumped in from the river, it is necessary to minimize use of plumbed appliances during power outages.

Lastly, there are bugs here! Depending on the time of year and the weather, come prepared with appropriate clothing to cover up and be mindful when opening and closing the cabin doors. We provide a screened in tent to sit in outside as well as various insect repellent products as living with mosquitoes are a pesky reality of being in beautiful nature.

Neighborhood highlights

The cabin is located on a picturesque bend of the Madawaska river which is an off the beaten path summer tourist area.

The collection of cabins on this bend were intentionally constructed mid-century to create a place for people to be in nature and refresh mind, body and soul.

It is private, but not secluded; there are about 10 cabins located nearby, most are holiday rentals.

The property is neighboured by Silgrey Resort (seven waterfront cabin rentals) on one side and Rolling Rapids Retreat, (a cabin rental that we operate, see https://airbnb.com/h/rollingrapidsretreat) on the other side.

The cabin itself sits on approximately 1/4 of an acre, the property is well treed so there is good privacy from the neighbouring cabins on either side.
