The space
Hi there! Thanks so much for checking out our listing and considering us for your vacation plans. Before we talk about the cabin, I thought I'd give you some info that rarely pops up on airbnb.. I want to talk about how we host.
Eddie and I personally designed our a-frame from scratch and had it custom built in 2022. Our goal was to provide a sanctuary away from our busy lives - a place to unplug, unwind, and reconnect. It's very much our home away from home and eventually will be our permanent home.
That's how we host, too. We host as if we're opening up our home to you and we want you to feel totally and completely at home in it.
We provide a lot beyond the typical vacation rental expectations, because this is not a typical vacation rental. It's our only property other than our full time home and we spend a lot of time making sure it's well stocked and cared for.
We provide all of the following:
- Souvenirs to remember your trip by: a custom created linen spray, stickers, and koozies
- Quality shampoo, conditioner, face wash, hand wash, lotion
- Four full sized towels, two wash clothes, two hand towels, two make up towels, all per bathroom, and six hot tub towels
- Ground coffee from Pisgah Coffee Roasters, coffee filters, a drip coffee maker, and a pour over set (we also usually leave some coffee creamer and if you want to bring your favorite beans, we have a coffee grinder too!)
- A fully stocked kitchen for basic cooking necessities: salt, pepper, general spices, condiments, GRAZA olive oil, butter, plus we leave anything unopened in the pantry.. that usually means some extra goodies and snacks.
- Well stocked toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, dishwasher tablets, and an array of cleaning supplies should you need it.. none of that 'starter pack' bs where you show up to one roll of toilet paper and have to buy more!
- A thoughtfully curated collection of cards, games, books, and vinyls. Like things you actually want to enjoy! We have books from every category - new releases, classics, non fiction. Most of them are books we've read or want to read, some are even from past guests who wanted to add to our library. And our vinyl collection is full of some great albums across every genre.. Taylor Swift, Led Zeppelin, Noah Kahan, Dolly Parton just to name a few.
Now that we've talked about the experience, let's talk about the place.
Here's the highlights:
• Two separate bedrooms with memory foam queen size beds - one upstairs, one downstairs.
• Two separate bathrooms with floor to ceiling tiled walk in showers - one upstairs, one downstairs.
(Because who wants to go on vacation and have to share a bathroom!!)
• Scandinavian gas fireplace in the living room for the ultimate cozy cabin vibes.
• Private cedar hot tub under the stars.
• No TV - intentionally unplugged for reading, connection, and conversation.
• Fully functioning kitchen - stocked with pots, pans, bakeware, dinnerware, and different types of glassware.
• Comfy outdoor spaces - a hammock, a Solo Stove fire pit with Adirondack chairs.
• Charcoal grill and tools.
• Certified Wildlife Habitat - it's not uncommon to see deer, rabbits, and all kinds of native animals.
• Adults-only - perfect for couples, solo travel, or close friends.
• Dog friendly with *no extra fee!*
And here's a walk through of the layout:
At just about 1300 square feet, it's a cozy little cabin. You enter through the front door into the full kitchen with a custom built dining table-island combo. The downstairs also has a full bathroom with tiled walk in shower and a bedroom with a queen size bed and memory foam mattress. From there, the cabin opens up into the living room, where there’s a comfy leather couch, seating area, propane fireplace, and library nook all under the 28’ cathedral ceiling and wood beams.
There’s no tv here! Our living room is designed to be an unplugged space, where you can select a book and a vinyl and put your phone down for a bit. While we don’t have a tv, we do have high speed Starlink internet, so if you’d like to stream, make sure to bring your favorite streaming device.
The other bedroom is located on the lofted second floor, overlooking the living room. There’s a bathroom, walk in shower, dressing area, desk, reading area, and a balcony. This layout means each bedroom and bathroom gets its own space.
Our outdoor spaces are cozy and comfy too. Out front we have a flagstone patio for the Solo Stove fire pit, surrounded by Adirondack chairs, and a hammock just off to the side. We also have a second hammock on the front porch and a charcoal grill just off the driveway.
The back deck is a truly magical space with an outdoor living room, propane heated fire table, bar railing and chairs, and a cedar soaking hot tub all tucked underneath our beautiful chestnut oak tree. The deck wrapping around the tree, and the surrounding trees just off the deck, make the cabin feel like a treehouse. During the summer it feels secluded and during the winter it feels like sitting on top of your own mountain as you’re surrounded by views. We have wildflowers during the spring and the most stunning leaf colors during the fall, too.
And while you might easily want to spend every minute enjoying all of that relaxing magic, if you're also looking for some adventure, Old Fort and the surrounding areas are home to some of the best hikes, mountain biking, fly fishing, waterfalls for swimming, and scenic drives in all of North Carolina. We love our little mountain town.

-“Are you family friendly?”
We built and designed with the intention of our cabin being a retreat for adults only - couples, friends, or solo travel. We do not provide any child specific amenities and there are hazards to be aware of (spiral staircase, unfenced in yard, breakable items, etc).
-"Are you dog friendly?"
Yes! We love our two dogs, Dolly & Jolene, and love hosting guests and their dogs, too. We don't charge an extra pet fee.
- "Do you allow weddings/events?"
We allow elopements and micro-weddings. Please contact directly so we can discuss the details further! We do *not* allow events larger than 12 people, including all guests & vendors.
- "I'm celebrating a special event, can I hire a photographer?"
Sure! Please reach out and let us know that you'll be working with a photographer during your stay. If you need recommendations, feel free to ask!
- "Do you allow commercial photography?"
Commercial photography is not allowed at our property without prior approval. This includes social media content creation for brands! If you are interested in using our property for commercial photography, please contact us to discuss the property release form and commercial licensing fee in advance. This fee can still be collected if you book without disclosure.
- "We really want to stay but there's five of us."
We are flexible on adding one additional guest past our regular maximum of four but please understand that the entire cabin is set up for four people at most. This means we have seating for four, glassware/plates for four, linens for four, etc.
We would love to host you! Please consider purchasing travel insurance when you reserve your dates, as we do stick to our cancellation policy and do not make exceptions.
Guest access
Guests will have full access to everything in the cabin.
Other things to note
Important Note:
Our cabin is not considered child friendly. If you are interested in staying with children, please be aware of the following hazards:
• Unfenced yard with direct access to steep areas, acres of dense woods, and native animals (bobcats, bears, snakes, etc.)
• An open loft with a wire railing.
• A narrow spiral staircase that does not have a baby gate.
• Furniture that is not mounted to the wall and may tip over (dressers and bookcases).
• Outlets without covers.
By requesting to book, you are agreeing to full responsibility and liability for all children present during your stay and agree that they will be monitored by a responsible adult at all times.
- During inclement weather, access to our cabin will only be an issue if I-40 is closed. You do not need AWD or 4WD, but our driveway is steep. If you aren't comfortable with that, we do have a flat parking area on the right side of the road just past the cabin. We recommend using that area if heavy rain or snow is in the forecast.
- PET POLICY: Dogs are welcome! We are dog owners ourselves, we love our four legged friends and we invite you to bring yours along with you. We do not charge an extra pet fee, but we do limit the number to 3 and dogs only. We do not have a fenced in area and, while not common, we do have bears and other animals typical to the mountains. Please do not leave your pets unattended outside. You are responsible for their behavior during your stay and can be held liable for any damages.
- We have a Ring doorbell camera on the front door. This is our only security camera and is to protect our cabin as well as your belongings during your stay. We will not access this camera during bookings unless in case of an emergency.
