Escaudœuvres is a French municipality located in the Nord department, in the Hauts-de-France region. It is located in the Cambrésis region and in the urban area of Cambrai and is one of the 55 member municipalities of the Cambrai Urban Community which brings together more than 80,000 inhabitants. The inhabitants are called the Scaldobrigiens. Their nickname is the Sangliers1.

Due to its proximity to Cambrai, an imperial city near the border of the Kingdom of France, Escaudœuvres has undergone the vicissitudes of many sieges and invasions throughout its history. The canalization of the Scheldt, at the end of the 18th century, led to an industrialization of the municipality. Despite the closures of companies in the 20th century, the working-class and industrial character of Escaudœuvres remains strong. The town presents itself today both as a "reading town" for obtaining the charter in 1992 and as a "sugar city" because of the place that the "central sugar factory" established in 1872 occupies in its history and economy.
