Lal Kothi is Chef Sameer Sewak and his family’s home in the foothills of Mussoorie, Dehradun. Featured among Condé Nast Traveller’s Top Homestays in India, guests enjoy a private second floor with two bedrooms, a kitchen/lounge, steam shower and terraces overlooking the Mussoorie hills & Sal forests. Your stay includes a complimentary breakfast, with option to order vegetarian & non vegetarian delicacies from the famous menu crafted by Chef Sameer and his mother, Swapna.

The space
Welcome to your private 1,500 sq. ft. retreat, thoughtfully designed with exposed red brick in a classic Dehradun architecture character with a minimalist Wabi Sabi aesthetic that celebrates simplicity, warmth, and natural materials.

The entire floor is exclusively yours, offering complete privacy along with sun-filled interiors, panoramic views of the Mussoorie hills and the Dehradun valley, and spaces designed equally for relaxation and remote work. Every bedroom has a dedicated workspace, while soft furnishings throughout the home have been carefully chosen to create a calm, comfortable atmosphere.

The bathrooms are fitted with bidets, and one features a steam shower, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring the hills.

We grow seasonal organic vegetables in our kitchen garden many of which find their way onto your breakfast table and into meals prepared for our guests.

Nature is just beyond the gate. Enjoy walks through nearby Sal forests, hike down to Kimadi village via Tons River, or simply spend an afternoon watching birds and the changing light over the hills from one of the balconies or terraces.

Despite the peaceful setting, you’re only about 15 minutes from some of Dehradun’s best cafés and restaurants, while Mussoorie and Landour are an easy 45-minute drive away.

Its 15-20 mins away from all the best restaurants and shopping places in Dehradun. Its the perfect location for getting some quiet while not being far away from the major touch points in the city. It has great mobile network coverage.
