Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
Get close to nature, with all the comforts of home, in our spacious en-suite yurt on our 15 acre smallholding on the Solway coast. Tucked away amongst the gorse and trees you can sit out and enjoy the views out to sea, or take a short stroll down to the coast to explore the secluded beaches and rockpools.

The space
The yurt is a beautiful large open plan space sleeping 5 and with it's own attached en-suite shower room. Along with a king size bed there is are double and single futons and can comfortably accommodate 2 adults and up to 3 children. There is hot and cold running water, a kitchenette with sink, gas hob, electric fridge and dining table. Wool felt insulation and a wood burning stove will keep you cosy and warm. The attached shower cabin features a large walk in shower, hand basin and flushing toilet. The yurt has a small off-grid system to provide lighting, power the fridge (summer months only) and there are USB sockets to charge your phone. With an outdoor picnic bench with views out to sea, there's everything you need for a relaxing holiday.

Guest access
The yurt is in a private secluded spot on our smallholding and you'll have it all to yourself along with a sitting out area and freedom to explore our 15 acres of land. There is a dedicated parking area which is a 100m walk from the yurt along an easy path. We will be around elsewhere on the land but we won’t intrude on the yurt’s space, which is set a few minutes walk away from the house and our work areas.

Other things to note
The yurt is off grid but there is a 12v system providing lighting, phone charging. and a 12v fridge for use during the warmer months. There is no wi-fi but mobile phone signal is usually pretty good and you can get 4G on most networks.

The parking for the yurt is a 100m walk away from the yurt itself.

During the colder months we provide an initial basket of firewood for the wood burner, and you can purchase additional firewood for £10.

The yurt is in a quiet secluded spot but we are a family running a smallholding with young children so you may occasionally hear our two autistic & adventurous boys.

Neighborhood highlights

Kinganton is a 15 acre smallholding looking out to sea where we grow our own organic vegetables and keep ducks, chickens and sheep as pets. Our land features ancient oak trees, a bluebell wood, a seasonal pond and springs, with wild visitors including Roe deer, red squirrels and hares plus a variety of birdlife including owls and red kites, plus a regular visiting peacock.

With sandy beaches, rocky coves and a few surprising old ruins by the sea just a few minutes stroll away, plus walks in the rolling hills and woods around us, there’s plenty to explore on foot, or bike, right from the door. We’re also ideally situated to explore this unspoilt region of South West Scotland. The Artist’s Town of Kirkcudbright with it’s harbour, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and calendar of events is 8 miles away, as is the picturesque village of Gatehouse of Fleet. The Galloway mountains and forests are just a few miles inland offering great walking, mountain bike trails and watersports at Loch Ken. The area is also recognised for its clear skies as one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world, and the first Dark Sky Park in the UK.
