Jackson is one of the older streets in the city, close to the heart of downtown and a half block away from Sony Picture Studios. Many of the residents over the years have worked directly with the studios and in the industry as writers, makeup artists, set designers, editors, and more, and many of them find their way to Jackson Market. Sony was first built as Culver Studios in 1915 then later sold to Samuel Goldwyn and formed into the MGM Studios in 1924, which went on to create many of Hollywood's most famous of classic movies including Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, and more. Jackson Market was built just a year later in 1925 and has been servicing the neighborhood, and the studios ever since. Henry Culver built his beautiful triangle hotel just a few blocks away where he centered the heart of Culver City. Today the hotel anchors a district full of restaurants, cafes, theaters, and bars all within a 5 minute walk.
