The space
This stunning A-frame, crafted with love by its owner, is more than just a home—it's a sanctuary. Imagine stepping into 1,600 square feet of cozy living space, designed for up to 6 guests to relax, reconnect, and rejuvenate.
The open loft boasts a king-sized bed, ideal for waking up to breathtaking views. Unwind in the two-person tub that overlooks the serene backyard forest, letting the stress of the world melt away.
Downstairs, a cozy bedroom with a queen-sized bed offers a peaceful retreat. The great room, featuring a queen-sized sofa bed beside a warm wood stove, invites you to gather with loved ones. What memories will you create here?
The bathroom features a generously sized walk-in shower with a full-length window that brings the beauty of the outdoors inside.
Step outside onto the front deck and immerse yourself in the tranquility of your Saddle Mountain retreat. A 5-foot wood-fired cedar hot tub awaits, inviting you to soak under the stars and enjoy stunning sunsets as they cast a golden glow.
Here, there are no screens and no internet—just you, nature, and the warmth of a wood stove. Embrace the simplicity of a unplugged escape where every moment is an opportunity to unwind and connect with what truly matters. While we invite you to unplug from screens and internet, you'll still have reliable cell phone reception for peace of mind.
This home is offered as a retreat and not a party or event space. No additional party or event guests are permitted with this reservation.
Enjoy the authentic, deeply relaxing experience of our wood-fired cedar hot tub. A labor of love, it takes 4-5 hours to heat, inviting you to slow down, build a fire, and anticipate a truly memorable soak under the stars. Refire the next day approximately 1 hour. Use of hot tub for one-night stays is NOT recommended due to heating time required. Consider booking a 2nd night if you'd like to use the hot tub.

This haven is the ideal escape for relaxation, a place to power down your phone, and invigorate your soul.
Here, you can embrace a slower pace and indulge in activities you love but rarely find time for. Dedicate entire days to preparing a gourmet meal, reflect in your journal, embark on the journey of writing a novel, meditate, lose yourself in books, or relish quality moments with your cherished ones. This is the haven where time moves at a more leisurely tempo.
Stewardship
Once a clearcut site in 1994, Idyll Ridge has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving into a thriving coastal forest through dedicated stewardship. In the initial years following the clearcut, the ridge served as a motorcycle dirt track, featuring over a mile of trails etched into the terrain. Over time, as 1,300 native trees were planted and the natural regrowth of the land took hold, the forest enveloped these trails, transforming them into enchanting moss-covered pathways, beckoning exploration.
One of the most extraordinary transformations on the property is the former rock quarry, now known as 'The Grotto.' This tranquil sanctuary has been lovingly repurposed for meditation, music, yoga, and more, providing a serene space for rejuvenation and self-discovery.
Explore over a mile of winding trails that meander through this pristine native forest. Whether you prefer a leisurely stroll or a more adventurous hike, the paths on the property cater to all levels of hikers, with terrain ranging from easy to moderately steep. Rest assured, these interconnected trails always loop back onto themselves, ensuring that you won't lose your way.
Make the most of your stay by taking morning and evening walks through this enchanting forested haven. As you wander, keep your eyes peeled for the chance to spot a variety of wildlife, including deer, elk, owls, snakes, and countless other creatures that call this forest home.
For a unique experience, try your hand at a native plant scavenger hunt with the help of a plant field guide. Or, if you simply want to unwind and connect with nature, find a serene spot on the soft mossy ground and enjoy a peaceful nap amidst the beauty of the forest.
Located an hour from Portland and only 30 minutes from the coast, Idyll Ridge provides the best of both worlds: serene seclusion and easy access to a range of destinations. Nestled by the Nehalem River, it offers swift river access, an 18-minute drive to a scenic mountain lake, and nearby hiking opportunities like Saddle Mountain. This location serves as a gateway to various natural wonders.
An ideal experience might simply be staying exclusively within the property, enjoying all the amenities while taking in the majestic views of the region.

Idyll Ridge is your eco-friendly getaway, harnessing the power of the sun to fuel its operations. Our off-grid home is powered exclusively by renewable solar energy, allowing you to enjoy a comfortable stay with a minimal environmental footprint. From the fully electric A-frame to the golf cart that conveniently transports you from the parking area to the house, and even the well, which draws crystal-clear spring water, our commitment to sustainable living shines through every aspect of your stay.
Stormwater is collected then gently permeates the nearby ecosystem, providing essential nourishment to indigenous flora. Our on-site composting efforts actively contribute to ongoing land restoration initiatives. We responsibly harvest firewood from the property, enhancing our fire protection measures. Even the septic system seamlessly integrates into our closed-loop approach, upholding a harmonious equilibrium with the natural environment.
Though we allow one-night stays, our biggest feedback from guests has been, "We should have booked another night!". Idyll Ridge is best enjoyed when you can slow down and relax. Please consider booking a second night to get the most out of your stay.
In keeping with the unplugged escape, there are no screens, no internet, and wood stove heat only. If you do not have experience with wood stoves, we recommend researching and watching youtube videos to help.
