The holiday home is located in the southernmost Swedish province ‘Skåne’ (German = ‘Schonen’), right on the edge of the forest at the end of a small settlement, east of Lund, Malmö and Copenhagen, about 17 km west of the sandy beach of the Baltic Sea (as the crow flies), between Ystad in the south & Kristianstad in the north, in the Österlen region – lovingly referred to as ‘the Tuscany of Sweden‘ or also like this: ‘A small Scandinavian province – and a big paradise‘.

The space
The area around the holiday homes offers a wonderful mix, is, so to speak, “relaxing | close to nature | eventful“ at the same time, with relatively short distances to numerous places that invite you to relax, enjoy and recharge your batteries, always surrounded by a unique, wildly beautiful and intact nature, as well as a wide range of countless and special experiences, regardless of whether in sporting, cultural or culinary terms.

This impressive combination, in addition, the proximity to the sea and beach in three directions – and in many places the flowing transitions from the original, diverse landscapes into the cozy, sometimes pulsating, urban life – these are optimal conditions for bringing the individual wishes into harmony with the community.

In ‘Skåne’ and ‘Österlen’ you simply feel very welcome – it is a wonderful ‘spot of earth’ for, among others, holidaymakers, adventurers, digital nomads, those preparing to emigrate, those seeking relaxation, ‘lake-, beach-, sea- and nature-lovers’, families, children, couples, singles, connoisseurs, athletes, leisure enthusiasts, dropouts, hikers, bikers and many more. We also believe that, on the one hand, our fair pricing enables an inexpensive stay and, on the other hand, our efforts contribute at least a small part to make your trip more pleasant, so that everyone involved ultimately has a pleasant, stress-free and happy time and the following quote also will apply to you: “Whoever has been to Skåne comes back. Again and again.“

More and more people are enjoying their stays in Sweden. We especially in our region of Skåne in southern Sweden. The selection of a destination region can be made based on information found in travel guides or other sources. Ideally, if all travelers then decide together to do so. This should also apply to the type of accommodation, whether hotel, guesthouse, private room or 'own' holiday home. We would like to point out here, because it may not be clear to everyone that in almost all holiday homes in this region, including ours, no artificial 'heating climate' is generated. So the climate in the house is the same as in the nature that surrounds the house. Climate tables for this region show (e.g. on weatherandclimate (dot) c o m) that the temperatures, even in summer and at least at night, are regularly below 20°C and generally there is a high humidity, on average about 80%, 40 to 60% would be desirable. So the climate in the house is corresponding, with everything that goes with it. The Swedes even use their 'own' terms for this, such as "stugdoft" or "stuglukt" – loosely translated, this could be understood as "hut scent or hut smell". This is not only due to the prevailing climate there, but often also to the construction method with building materials, some of which are over 100 years old, which contribute to these conditions. Staying in a hotel or in more southern areas would probably be a better choice for those who are bothered by such conditions. A holiday home, including ours, is not a hotel and is characterized by these circumstances! All of this is no secret and should actually be known, but it is important for us to talk about it openly and directly, even if it may seem paradoxical.

Comment on "Suitable for (small) children":
My brother and I, as well as many of our friends of the same age as well as our children, have been spending our vacations at this place at least once a year since we or they were born. So we are of the opinion that this place is "suitable for (small) children", otherwise we would have not been in this place with our parents and we would not be there with our children. But not all parents have to share our opinion, so if there are any questions for this I will be happy to answer them.

Where you’ll be

Tomelilla, Skåne län, Sweden

The holiday home "Stony" is located in the south of Sweden in Skåne, about 1 hour drive east of Malmö, in the Österlen region. I usually travel by car. There are numerous possibilities for this, such as the car ferries from Stenaline, TT-Line, Finnlines or Scandlines, for example from Travemünde, Rostock or Sassnitz directly to Sweden (Trelleborg or Malmö). From here you drive about 1 hour - 1.5 hours to the house. Also, the car ferry from Puttgarden (Germany) to Rödby (Denmark) is a possibility to travel, connected with a 1.5 hour drive through Denmark, then over the Öresund bridge between Denmark and Sweden and then about 1 hour to the house. But without a ferry, it also starts from Germany, namely via the mainland and the two bridges (Storebaeltbrücke in Denmark and Öresund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden).

Of course you can also travel without a car, fly to Copenhagen or by long-distance bus or train (for example to Malmö), then it is advisable to resort to a rental car, as there is no public transport within a radius of about 10 km around the house.

On 'visitskane [dot] com' are numerous information on leisure activities available, which are offered around the house.
Malmö, Lund, Ystad (Kommissar Wallander) and Kristianstad / Åhus (Absolut Vodka) are just a few cities in the area that are worth a look.

There is really so much to discover that it is impossible to list everything here - since 1978 I spend my holidays here several times a year and I still discover something new.

A holiday here offers something for everyone, according to the motto: 'relaxing - close to nature - eventful'.

Here are only a few impressions from visitskane website:

"Southeast of Skåne - Österlen: This is the part of Skåne where artists and writers come to get inspired by the beautiful landscape. A slow pace of life and a friendly atmosphere attracts bon-vivants from all over the world, who come to Österlen to enjoy the regions unique mix of beautiful nature and interesting culture. Meander through fields carpeted in colourful flowers, get a room with stunning views over the land and the sea. And whatever you do, don’t miss the famous apple plantations.

Swedens most beautiful beach

Life’s a beach in Österlen, and even in the peak of the summer season a secluded spot can be found on the region's 50 kilometres of beach. The most famous of them all is the silky white strip named Sandhammaren, with white sand that matches the best of the Caribbean. In fact, this 12 kilometer long beach on the southeastern tip os Sweden has been voted as Sweden’s best beach several times. The giant sandy area is perfect for taking in the rays and splashing around in the water during hot summer days, or for taking long beach combing walks all year round. Kick off your shoes and enjoy a barefoot stroll in your own piece of paradise.

THREE CUTE TOWNS TO VISIT

Kivik

Österlen is also called The Apple Kingdom and the capital of the apple kingdom is the old, picturesque fishing village Kivik that has evolved into a small holiday paradise because of the area's nice beaches and - of course - the apples. In Kivik, apples are not just apples, it is science, a deep passion and a way of life. The area around Kivik is ideal for apple trees, both due to the soil and the ideal climate and the area grows more than 70 different varieties of apples. During spring, thousands upon thousands of fruit trees, mainly apple trees, are in blossom on the hills sloping down towards the Hanöbukten Bay. Later on, on the last weekend of September, when the blossom has turned to fruit, the newly picked goodies are the centre of attention at the big Apple market.

Simrishamn

Simrishamn is a picturesque coastal town in southern Sweden with a rich fishing past. Just like the neighbouring town Ystad, it is first and foremost the buildings and houses that create the towns charming ambiance. The small pastel coloured houses and beautiful hand carved doors can be seen in abundance along the cobblestone streets in the older part of town. The typical street view of old town Simrishamn is of houses and planks in pastels lining the street hiding some of the most amazing gardens from curious glances on the other side.

Ystad

Ystad is a beautiful town with medieval, pastel coloured half timbered houses on cobblestone streets and sun dappled squares. Leap back in time and visit museums with different, sometimes off beat themes, visit the quaint shops and cosy cafés, or jump on a steam train and explore the beautiful countryside.

SKÅNE'S OWN PIECE OF PARADISE

Österlen is Skånes own piece of paradise, where artists and writers come to get inspired by the beautiful landscape. Lose yourself in the romantic views over the land and the sea, drop by a quaint farm shop to pick up fresh food to eat overlooking the starry sky, or meander through fields carpeted in colourful flowers. Stay in an idyllic fishing hamlet and watch the fishermen returning in the early morning with their catch. And whatever you do, don’t miss the famous apple plantations.

The tempo of Österlen is slow and therefore ideal for both a weekend or a longer break. But if you want to stay active, there is no shortage of activities. You will find golf courses in Vik, Ystad and Tomelilla. An old steam train chugs into Brösarp throughout the summer. Horse back riding and water sports such as fishing and yachting can be easily arranged. A wander through the cobbled streets of Ystad or Simrishamn can push the stresses of daily life firmly to the back of your mind. If that doesn't work then why not try morning yoga in the Baskemölla eco-village, followed by lunch at the enchanting Mandelmann's Gardens in Rörum. Below, we have collected the 10 most popular places to visit in the area.

TOP PLACES TO VISIT AT ÖSTERLEN

Ale's Stones

Built somewhere in the early Iron Age, between 500-1,000 AD, “Sweden’s Stonehenge” consists of 59 massive boulders arranged in the 67 metre-long outline of a ship. Ale’s Stones are located on the ridge above the fishing village of Kåseberga. Scholars can’t agree whether it’s a grave monument, astronomical clock or resting place of the mythical King Ale. Tip. End your visit to Ale’s Stones at Kåseberga harbour and taste the local herring from one of the smoke houses.

Stenshuvud National Park

You don’t see many national parks where you can chill on a beach as well as exploring spectacular countryside, but this one has. It’s a magical area in beautiful Österlen, South east Skåne that has a sandy heathland, stunning coastline and marked hiking paths for families of all abilities. It’s a year round place for hikers, cyclists and family fun.

The King’s Grave in Kivik

Few burial monuments in Scandinavia have been as well studied as this Bronze Age cairn. Dated from 1600 BC, the site measures 75 meters in diameter, making it the largest mound of its type in Sweden. A central stone chamber was found in 1748, containing a cist formed of 10 engraved upright stone slabs. The engravings are among the most notable works of art from the Bronze Age and a number of images are unique in Scandinavian rock carving traditions, making the King's grave one of the most remarkable archaeological monuments in Sweden.

The steam train in Österlen

In the small village of Brösarp in east Skåne you can catch a preserved steam train. The train is a favourite among train enthusiasts of all ages, and traveling through the beautiful landscape with its forests and meadows feels like traveling through time.
The trip gives the atmosphere of a steam-operated railway in the 50s, with steam pumping from the chimney and the characteristic steam whistle sound.
The staff are dressed in time appropriate uniforms, making the whole experience feel like you are in a movie. There are four stations along the way; Brösarp, Ravlundabro, Vitaby and S:t Olof, all of which are picturesque and quaint little villages, perfect for a pause and an ice cream.
If you catch the train on a Sunday you can book a table in the restaurant car and enjoy a delicious meal en-route.

Ystad studios- an experience center for film in Ystad

Few people have missed the murder mysteries solved by Inspector Kurt Wallander, a series of books and murders that has put Ystad on the Nordic Noir map. Ystad studios is an experience center for film and movies honouring this popular series and movie making in general, giving visitors a chance to see film presentations, try their hand at making their own animations, meet the people behind the films, have a go at trick filming and much more.

Kiviks Musteri

Sample fruits and berries lovingly nurtured for over four generations. This is the place to go if you appreciate beautiful scenery, good food & great drinks. Orchard, courses, displays, tasting, farm shop, café and restaurant.

Ystad Animal Park – exotic animals

In the undulating countryside west of Ystad, you can see around 60 different species of animals from around the world: zebras, lemurs, camels, monkeys, birds and reptiles. For younger visitors, there’s also a pet’s corner, pony riding, a playground and a heated pool with a children’s pool for those days when it’s too cold to swim in the sea.

Nordic Sea Winery

In the small town of Simrishamn in eastern Skåne, you will find this ultra-modern winery featuring a showroom, a wine bar and a restaurant. Here you can enjoy wine as well as fine dining while learning more about how the wines are produced - all the way from grape to finished product. Nordic sea winery is one of Northern Europe’s most modern wine facilities and some of Sweden’s most well known and best selling wine brands are produced here. In the summertime it is very nice to have your dinner outside, and there is also a small shop where you can buy a selection of gifts and delicacies. Wine tasting package deals can be booked in advance - they are very popular and highly recommended. "
