Nestled in the NC mountains, our converted school bus tiny home offers a unique retreat in the woods. The vibrant yellow bus features a cozy interior with a compact kitchen and dining area with windows showcasing forest views. A comfortable living space includes a sofa and the sleeping area has a cozy bed. A compact bathroom with toilet and shower adds convenience. Enveloped by wildlife and just 10 minutes from charming West Jefferson, this tiny “Schoolie” home is a perfect escape into nature.

The space
This "Schoolie" has it all! You will drive right up to the bus and park in front of it to easily unload your belongings. On the large deck, you’ll find outdoor seating, a small gas grill, and space to hang out in nature complete with beautiful privacy walls to block the private road and the geodesic dome behind it. The fire pit area with outdoor seating is just steps away. (Not available in high wind— Smokey the Bear says so!) Bring your hammocks to string out!

Inside, you’ll be greeted with the original driver's seat for the bus before turning to view the cozy couch.

On the left upon entering, you’ll find the kitchenette equipped with small refrigerator, electric cook top, Keurig K Cafe, sink, plenty of pots and pans, cooking essentials, toaster, blender, and more! This tiny kitchen is stocked by someone who loves to cook!

Wandering on back while you enjoy the cascading windows overlooking the serene woods, you'll find the bathroom which features a shower, a compact vanity with sink and shelves next to the shower to stash your items. Toilet and toilet paper is provided for you. Towels are provided. You’ll even find a few of the essentials available for your use in case you forgot anything for your stay.

The bedroom at the back of the bus features a queen-sized comfy mattress bed, outlets for charging your electronics (please no personal space heaters), and "benches" along side the bed for a place to set your things. The linens are provided as are extra blankets if you need a little something more!

No TV or WIFI here… come disconnect from your busy life and reconnect with nature! You will likely see deer and other wildlife. The bus is dog-friendly, up to two dogs allowed but they must be kept on a leash at all times. The bus sits on our home and working farm, and we have animals that are free to roam, so please be aware and respectful of them in their home. You will most likely see a few bugs or small critters as the bus is situated in the forest, and it’s their home too!

Parking is free and on-site, and the hosts will give you plenty of trip ideas to maximize your vacation. You’re sure to enjoy a stress-free vacation in the forest and be stoked by the quick drive to local restaurants, shops, and attractions.

Guest access
This Schoolie is a private airbnb. You’ll have access to the entire bus and deck.

You have approximately 10 acres available to you for exploring. Please abide no trespassing signs which mark the edges of our property. Please respect neighbors and other guests at adjacent properties as you explore.

Other things to note
We are dog friendly, but limit to one dog per stay due to the size of the bus and it being on our farm. We are strict about keeping dogs on leash any time they are outside. No other types of pets allowed.

The road leading to the Schoolie is a gravel mountain road. Please plan accordingly and be aware that there will be bumps and rocks to encounter on your drive. (See more below for winter months, late October to mid-May)

During winter months:
**The road to the Schoolie is gravel as mentioned above and can get icy. We try to keep the road scraped as best we can but cannot use salts due to the gravel. We recommend 4WD or AWD. A slower and steady climb up the hill is best (10 MPH and keep going, don't stop) when it's icy. If a neighbor is coming down, they know to pull off and let others come up before they go down! Please also abide by this policy to keep everyone safe.
***Our friends at Unseen Pass offer road-worthy side-by-sides and jeeps for rent that may be a great option. Reach out to us for our special friends discount and ask to have your unit delivered and waiting on you at the dome when you arrive!

**At 3800 ft elevation, we get really high winds in the winter and fall. You will not be able to use the firepit due to this, and it may be unavailable so please just be aware that this is out of our control.

Hi, I'm Emily! My husband is Leeth. We love to adventure as a couple and with our two kiddos. We have two dogs, too many chickens, the occasional pig and we are amateur homesteaders. We have a dream of building a handful of unique structure "tiny" houses and hosting like-minded people to enjoy our beautiful land in the mountains of NC. We hope you love our place, and if we're your guests, we thank you for opening your space to us!
