Woodhill, Carnoustie is not too far off the outskirts of Carnoustie town centre and Monifieth. It is also not far from Broughty Ferry and Arbroath, so you will be able to get pretty much anything you need. It is just off the A92.
Adjacent to the holiday home lies the renowned Angus Alchemy distillery, with an American twist, which specialises in crafting exceptional gin and moonshine, reimagining flavours and techniques. Committed to offering a unique and captivating spirit-tasting experience, infused with rich flavours and vibrant personalities.
Tastings are delicious and fun, and there’s no need for a taxi! It is advisable to book in advance, especially on a weekend, but they will always welcome you in at the shop :-)
For outdoor enthusiasts, from Woodhill, by Carnoustie, you can enjoy verdant countryside by walking or cycling the Angus Coastal Trail (so bring your bikes). View town path network leaflets on the Angus Council website. Rowanlea Horse Riding School is nearby (see their website for booking details). Golf enthusiasts will delight in the proximity to world-class courses, including the legendary Carnoustie Golf Links, where challenging fairways await amidst breathtaking coastal scenery. Villages, shops and anything you might need is a short car journey away, or a taxi / train journey if you want to go further afield, or have a break from driving. Also a short drive away are beachside parks with paddle pools. Enjoy Broughty Ferry Beach and its surroundings, or if you like being on the water, there are River Tay estuary tours. During the summer, pop along to nearby Balhungie Farm to buy their DELICIOUS strawberries / raspberries. It’s a beautiful setting.

🏃🚲 🚗 walk or run the pathway alongside the A92, or drive and get a treat at Dobbies / McDonald’s / let the kids bounce off some energy at Innoflate, or visit David Lloyd Gym if you are a member.
🏖 Monifieth (5 minute drive). Grab a coffee and enjoy the views at the Monifieth Activity Centre MAC Cafe. Visit its library, play in the park, go for a beach-side walk - you might spot a kite surfer. Get what you need at Tesco, the butchers, bakers, and the Chemist etc. Go fishing locally also.
🏖 Broughty Ferry Beach (12 minute drive). Visit the park / castle, play in the sand, enjoy a coastal walk, treat yourself to lunch or dinner.
🏙 Dundee City Centre (20 minute drive, or take the train). Swim at the Olympia Leisure Centre, shop, try the many bars and restaurants (Archie’s Dundee), enjoy the museums (history of Jute, Jam & Journalism), or book tickets for a show.
⛳️ Carnoustie centre (5 minute drive).
Perfect for golf fans, shops and restaurants, or take the kids to the sandy beach park, for a play and a paddle. Visit historical Barry Mill. It is a beautiful setting so take a picnic (pop to Balhungie Farm for those strawberries first), and the kids can enjoy a paddle in the shallow burn. Train station.
🐟 Arbroath (13 minute drive). Known for its historic Abbey (2025 is the 705th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence), and it is famous for Arbroath smokies. It has a quirky cinema, soft play, indoor funfair, skatepark, beach, and a great outdoor park with a paddling pool (West Links).
🌳 Monikie Country Park / Aquapark (outdoor inflatables), or Crombie Country Park (8 minute drive). Great for reservoir walks and family days out.
⛸️❄️ Forfar (30 minute drive). For the Golf Range / cafe, ice skating or Frosty’s Soft Play and shops.
🏰 Glamis Castle (30 minute drive). It was the childhood home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and is a stunning, historic castle to explore.
🐾 Camperdown Country Park & Zoo (30 minute drive).
🌊 St Andrews (40 minute drive). 'The Home of Golf', beautiful beaches, and charming streets.

There are lots of nice cafes, restaurants and pubs in Broughty Ferry, including: Urban Beach, Pizza Revolution, Visocchis (pasta and ice cream), Goodfellow & Steven (bakery and cafe), Wetherspoons, Tapas Restaurants, The Post Office Bar (sports bar), and many more.
DUNDEE:
There is a huge variety of places to try, including Archies food and drink venue.
David Lloyd Gym is close by, as is horse riding, beaches, golf courses, Distillery tastings, fishing, chemists, shops, supermarkets, parks, Innoflate, FunParx, Jumping Joey’s, Pleasureland, Hollywood Bowl, Frosty’s Soft Play, Chalmers Filmhouse, Odeon Lux, the Olympia Leisure Centre, and it is on the Angus Cycle Path, etc.
