The Goose Gap Shipyard on Barrie Island (Manitoulin) is a brand new container home that takes off grid living to the next level!

Fully powered by solar and propane (with generator backup), this retreat offers all of the comforts of home but in a sustainable setting.

The space
Barrie Island is an undiscovered gem on Manitoulin Island that is very remote (aside from the occasional neighbour!). That said, it is still only a 25 min drive to Groceries, Breweries and Restaurants .

You will have full access to the 4 acre property including the full cottage, a large sand beach with dock and a large flat area at the front of the property that is perfect for a game of soccer, baseball or any other activity you can think of. The bay is shallow and great for kids to play in. We have also recently added a wood burning Sauna for your enjoyment!

The cottage offers 1 full bathroom + an outdoor outhouse, 2 bedrooms (1 Queen + 1 Set of Bunk beds), a pullout sofa in the living room as well as a Bunkie with loft bedroom and a living space down below that offers unrivaled views of the lake and sunrise.

There is a full kitchen in the cottage as well as a BBQ.

The Bunkie is ready to use. It is an A frame cabin that has a Queen bed loft and a living area on the main floor. There is no running water but there is an outhouse and it is also just steps from the main Cottage.

The cottage uses filtered lake water for showers, toilets and tap water. This water is NOT potable. Drinking water is also provided

***NOTE: The cottage is up on a hill. To get to the beach there you must walk down the hill. Make sure to pack everything you need so that you don't have to continually walk up and down the hill. A pull wagon is also provided to make things a bit easier.

Guest access
Guests will have full access to all 4 acres of the property

Other things to note
Feel free to bring your toys with you! Barrie Island is great for exploring by ATV or Snowmobile. There is also a boat launch about 200 meters down the road from the cottage. You are welcome to park your boat on our beach or dock but we recommend taking it out of the water nightly so that it isn't damaged by changing water levels.

We are a family of 4 (plus 1 energetic puppy!) who loves the outdoors. We are always on the lookout for our next adventure which is what brought us to Manitoulin in the first place! In our “spare” time we run a small hobby farm where we produce eggs, honey, garlic, pumpkins and other vegetables and sauces.
