Superb house like no other in the Dordogne valley: on the square of a listed village, built in the 15th century, wood panelling from the 18th century, giant stone staircase and stone walls, big fireplaces... A lot of history packed in a spacious (1700 ft 2) house equipped with all the modern conveniences.

Large bedrooms with each its bathroom.

Ideally located to visit the area, Padirac, Rocamadour... Also close to shops and restaurants.

Bed linen, towels, wifi and cleaning fees included.

The space
This house is full of character and history since it once was the village hall and school, and where the famous french writer Pierre Loti spent his vacations several times as a child. The house is located on the square of a small "bastide" (typical village of southwestern France), whose origins go back to the 13th century (village is now protected).

You will enjoy its 1700 ft2, its 540 ft2 living room with 18th century wood panelling, its two 215 ft2 bedrooms, its stone "castle" staircase with its wrought iron railing, its large kitchen with open fireplace... If you like wood and stone, this house will delight you. And under these ancient appearances remain all the modern conveniences. Queen size beds (160cm wide). The house is sunny but remains cool even in the summer thanks to its 3ft thick stone walls (and there is a fan in each bedroom).

It is ideally located to visit the Dordogne valley. The renowned Padirac chasm is a 20 minutes drive, Rocamadour a 35 minutes drive, the "most beautiful villages of France" (official award, not my personal opinion!) Loubressac, Autoire and Carennac are all less than 6 miles away, Saint-Céré and its festival at 10 minutes... Not to mention the "Causses du Quercy natural park", the countless castles, the hikes, the caves, the aquatic and animal parks very much enjoyed by the children... Basically, everything is less than 30 minutes away by car, a few days won’t be enough to explore everything! In the house, you will find a guidebook that I wrote in French and English to share my good addresses for visits, places to swim, and of course... good restaurants and local specialties to try!

The house is close to all shops: bakery at 130 ft (for croissants every day!), market at 150 ft twice a week for fresh local products, restaurant at 300ft, supermarkets at 2 minutes and for the more sporty, petanque ground and canoe/bike rental at 1000ft... There is no garden but at 300ft a large park on a pedestrian island will welcome you (featuring games for children, a petanque court, a basketball court, a rugby court... you will find pétanque balls in the house if you want to try this typical french sport!).

Beds :

The house can accommodate up to five people but please note that there are only two bedrooms (see photos):

- one room with a double queen size bed (160 cm wide) and a single bed
- one room with a double queen size bed (160 cm wide)

Each room has its own shower room and toilets.

There is free parking at 300ft, and possibility to park right in front of the house to unload your luggage and groceries.

Layout of the house :

- on the first floor : entrance hall, kitchen and toilets
- on the first floor: huge 540 ft2 living room, an anteroom, and the two bedrooms with their bathrooms and toilets

Equipment : High-speed Wifi (optical fiber), TV 125cm, senseo coffee machine, dulce gusto coffee machine, filter coffee machine, washing machine, dryer, toaster, kettle, children's games (indoor and outdoor), chess game, books, DVD and DVD player, hair dryer, iron, microwave, dishwasher, oven, changing table, baby bathtub, high chair, baby bottle, baby bed, fan in each room...

Feel free to ask me if you have any question!

Guest access
You will have access to all parts of the house, including the spacious attic!

Other things to note
Please be aware that this house is located in the heart of the village, which means that you will be able to hear the village live. There is very little traffic and Bretenoux is generally speaking very quiet but from the living room you can sometimes hear the noises of the market, the bar or the restaurants on the square. The noise is not excessive and the bedrooms are completely silent but don’t expect the absolute silence of a house deep in the countryside like you can find so many in the Lot region!
