Designed by award-winning architects Shane Blue and Rachel Bourne, Fishcakes is one of just a handful of homes overlooking the white sandy cove of Seal Rocks. With huge seafront apex windows, 3 separate sleeping pavilions surround the private, wind protected internal courtyard. The house strikes a balance with a connection to its landscape. Fishcakes is about modesty, simplicity and beauty, you will find it hard not to fall in love!

The space
Indoor/outdoor flow is maintained via garage-style glass automated doors. The kitchen is understated and open with gas cooking, while a combustion fireplace adds nostalgia.
From simple beginnings, the design inspiration comes partly from Balinese homes that have separate wings for sleeping, entertaining, and bathing. A unique position means the house is high enough to avoid distractions from the road. In the best corner of southern Boat Beach, it’s protected from the wind and those mesmerising storms.
The house only truly reveals itself once you walk up the stairs for that feeling of arrival. And that’s how you can leave the world behind for a few days, a week or a month.
At the far end of Boat Beach, the house is on the cusp of the Sugarloaf Point lighthouse walk (a must, every time). Fishing and diving enthusiasts know the area well. For waves you have the point for friendly breakers, plus Lighthouse, Treachery or Yagon offering even more.
AMENITIES
Fishcakes is self contained, is full of sustainable features, and sleeps up to 7 guests. Private, comfortable and spacious, you’re surrounded by the greenery of the landscaped gardens, the exotic view and the national park.
The kitchen is understated and open. Cooking amenities consist of a gas cook top, outdoor Weber BBQ & microwave. Please note, there is no oven at the property. Things here have been kept simple in order to keep life simple. It is part of the appeal of Fishcakes. There is a freezer available downstairs for your use.
A combustion fireplace keeps things warm and cosy in the winter months. Firewoood is supplied. You can gather the kindling on your walks.
The bathroom pavilion is a series of compressed cement partitions - an idea lifted from surf club amenities. The facilities include two showers with hand held garden hoses and two separate toilets. The bathrooms reflect the quirky, natural and simple nature here at Fishcakes.
The 3 separate sleep pavilions each with king size beds wrap around the private courtyard. All bed linen and bath towels are provided.
Perched high on a sand dune you can stroll down to Boat Beach, or take a 5-minute walk to Lighthouse Beach. The house is on the cusp of the Sugarloaf Point lighthouse walk.
In true rural style, you’ll see a range of insects and wildlife through the different seasons.
Your small to medium sized house trained, well behaved pets are welcome at Fishcakes. Please note that pets must be included in your booking at a fee of $175.
Guest access
Guests can access all areas of the house.
Other things to note
Here at Fishcakes, and like the rest of Seal Rocks, we are connected to tank water only. If our tanks are depleted, a back up supply may take days to be delivered. Please be mindful and use the water wisely.
