Imagine a house off the beaten track in the middle of wild coastal forest with tropical gardens, an abundance of wild birds and the sun setting directly opposite every day of the year! The Treehouse is perched on top of a cliff with the best views over the Caribbean Sea - an oasis of peace and quiet set back from busy life. A secluded cove that is great for snorkeling and relaxing is 15 minutes walk away. The Treehouse is a place of nature with unique views.
The space
The Treehouse is a duplex that consists of two separate apartments. The Treehouse is designed for maximum enjoyment of the spectacular views over the Caribbean Sea and the coastal forest bordering the house. The large terrace on the top floor is the perfect place for outdoor living with a large dining table and comfortable sofa and easy chairs. The view from this terrace is truly breath-taking!
The top floor internal space includes a standard double bed with a mosquito net on a driftwood frame, ample storage cupboards and a fully equipped kitchen hand crafted from recycled wood. Kitchen appliances include a four hob gas stove and oven, fridge with ice box, kettle, blender, coffee machine and toaster. There are also a barbecue available for use outside.
The compact bathroom on the top floor has double hand basins with storage cabinets and a WC while there are two outdoor showers: one close to the house with solar heated water and another spectacularly located over the cliff among the trees which are home to native orchids. The outdoor showers are totally private and cannot be overlooked.
The lower floor (separate appartment) of the Treehouse comprises an open plan room with a standard double bed (an additional folding bed can be provided for a small daily supplement), a mosquito net on a frame, easy chair, ample storage and hanging cupboards and fully equipped kitchen (four ring gas hob and oven, blender, kettle, coffee machine and toaster). A table and chairs are located on the balcony which has beautiful views over the terraced gardens with their trees full of birds to the sea beyond.
The bathroom on the ground floor includes an indoor shower (solar heated water) with a shower curtain made from handmade fishing rops given to by the fishermen on the beach below, WC and hand basin with storage cabinet.
An elevated wooden walkway from the balcony on the lower floor crosses above the terraced garden to the sundeck with its sunloungers and umbrella and once again amazing sea views.
All water is our own harvested rainwater. The water in two of the showers is solar heated while the cliff outdoor showers use water from the rainwater tanks which is at ambient temperature - it is always warm here and most guests do not even use the hot water as they find it too hot!
We deliberately do not have a pool as we are surrounded by beautiful natural beaches. The snorkelling and swimming around us is so wonderful and the sea is so full of life that we prefer to swim there. If we get hot we enjoy a cooling shower on the cliff face surrounded by tropical birds and plants or we take a dip in the bay!
We are committed environmentalists and our passion for nature drives everything we do. Unlike other guest houses we dont use pesticides or insecticides but work with natural pest solutions. A network of several fishpools provide an environmental solution to prevent mosquitoes breeding as the fish eat any mosquito larvae and therefore reduce the mosquito population - this is in direct contrast to the common local practice of fogging for mosquitos with a spray made of neurotoxins.
Using our experience, we provide advice to local hotels to help them reduce their impact on the environment and conserve resources such as energy and water. We have planted our garden to encourage birds and other wildlife onto our plot and we have left most of the large property wild as a wildlife sanctuary. We are also planting many native plants in our plot which have been rescued from development areas in order to protect them from extinction.
We love using driftwood, corals, shells and other items collected from the beaches around the house. We are also making our own glasses from bottles recycled from our guests! We also reuse old coffee or potato sacks, e.g. as sunshades on the main terrace or as lampshade. While looking absolutely beautiful they also give a lovely light.
We work with two local Saint Lucians and we have designed with them a series of land and sea tours which are not on any tourist "programme". These are focused on local experiences and off the beaten track adventures.
Also available for hire are electric bicycles. They have are fat tire bikes with electric motor to explore the island for bike enthusiasts. The electric bikes are ideal for environmentfriendly transport. Let us know if you want more details.
