Where you’ll be

Duleek, County Meath, Ireland

Connell's House & Barn is located in Duleek, County Meath. It's a small traditional Irish town surrounded by beautiful countryside with two spectacular beaches nearby.

Duleek is one of many villages in the beautiful Boyne Valley region, which is part of 'Ireland's Ancient East'.

The 'Boyne Valley Drive' is a well known route, where visitors can explore the numerous ancient medieval ruins within this county, starting with Brú na Boinne (Newgrange) it's only 10 minutes away by car.

Connell's House & Barn over looks the village green, which is a pleasant grassed area with mature trees, old courthouse, church and parochial house. It is a quiet area with plenty of free on street parking to the front of the House and also to side of Connell's Barn.

The name Duleek comes from the Irish word 'daimh laig', which means 'house of stones' and refers to an old stone built Abbey called St. Mary's , the ruins of which are still visible today to the rear of Connell's House and Barn. It's the perfect place to stay whilst exploring the all the historical sites in the Boyne Valley and further a field, such as Dublin city and Belfast.

Duleek has a variety of local shops, pub, cafes and a restaurant, which are all within walking distance. There are many other excellent eateries a short drive away from Duleek, all of which are detailed in the Guest Information folder.

Lives in Ireland
I'm a furniture designer and have a passion for cleverly designed and beautifully made furniture and objects. I hope this passion comes across in Connell's House and Barn, which were lovingly restored between 2014-2016. As well as designing furniture I also have a very keen interest in Irish vernacular architecture, hence why I restored this derelict thatched cottage, which has been a life long dream! I'm a keen cook and love nothing more than cooking for my three young boys, lovely husband and extended family. I love gardening too, especially growing vegetables and herbs. I'll always be on hand to assist guests and answer any queries. I'm very house proud, so the House & Barn will be squeaky clean when you arrive! Connell's House & Barn dates back to 1690 and was in existence during the famous 'Battle of Boyne'. I really hope guests enjoy staying in the oldest home in Duleek village and exploring the 'Boyne Valley' and 'Ireland's Ancient East'.
