Reconnect with nature in this handcrafted earthen, rustic, cob cottage for 2 adults. Located in the mountain community of Quintas del Bosque, this private eco-retreat features a queen bed, full kitchen, bathroom, and hammock lounge with forest views. Built from water, clay, sand, & straw, it's perfect for couples seeking quiet, nature, and inspiration. Surrounded by bamboo trails, spring-fed pond, and waterfalls. Created by global adventurer Neal Petersen to offer peace and simplicity in nature.

The space
A romantic, unique one bedroom Cob Cottage that is built from earth clay, straw, sand and water and with no machinery, low carbon footprint. It's a perfect escape from the hectic life to become one with nature.

This rustic cottage - eco friendly - has bedroom walls that are 18 inches thick, for warmth and ambiance in the winter, and cool in the summer.
This cottage is set up for one couple on the main floor.

A two story structure, the living space with the kitchen, one bathroom, bedroom and dining and relaxing area for 2 people are upstairs. A unique form of Glamping for those who enjoy unique green earth friendly environments. We do have many stairs from where you park to walk to the cottage.

Arrive walking down the white stone stairs, pass exotic bamboos and herbs, flowers in the garden to the top floor of the two level structure. All done in harmony with nature, and improve air quality. Here is a hammock waiting, a lounger and benches to stretch out on as you look across the mountain vista as if sitting in your own tree house. Perfect space to sip your coffee or tea and feel at one with nature. There is a table and chairs to dine. There is also the open air under the roof kitchen with a small fridge, stove cook top, sink with hot and cold water and all the pots, pans, cutlery, glasses and dishes to enjoy your meal. Just bring your food. We do have a wood fired oven, and we can create a dining experience using it IF we are here for a fee. This can be discussed after booking.

The bathroom gives you a two sided view as you shower feeling like you are in the trees. Hot water shower, toilet and washbasin.

This is the cob structure that is cool in summer and warm in the winter. Step out to the Koi fish pond with is tranquilizing waterfall that will put you in the mood to hike out to the main waterfalls.

Bring books to read as there is no television or wifi. This is the place to totally disconnect and be in nature. If you love to write, enjoy painting and sketching, play a musical instrument, this is the place to be inspired. Bring your yoga mat and find your perfect spot to meditate. You will feel the energy of being in the mountains. Across the valley you can barely see the other houses.

Bring your swim suites and hike out to the waterfalls. The first is a 20 min hike and the second falls is an addition 45 min. There is no need to get in your car as you walk from the Cob Cottage.

Also bring your hiking boots as there are many hikes, starting right from our gardens. They have breathtaking views of the mountains.

We have a second rental unit on the property and we live in the main house, so you may chose to interact with others, or be by yourself. There are a few communally shared spaces such as the BBQ area and the gardens.

You will be living in indoor/outdoor living spaces. You may see tiny lizards, spiders, fire flies and various flying insects. Keeping your doors closed and windows that don't have screens will help. Please put food away in the bins we provide and not leave dirty dishes around that can attract unwanted visitors.

Guest access
You have your own area with plenty privacy, but we do live on the property and you may find us in the garden or the wood fired BBQ area.

We have a second rental unit on the property, and you could meet other guests in the common areas. There are many paths around the property to go walking and exploring. You are welcome to come visit us at the main house. Please note that Quintas Del Bosque is a secure, gated, guarded property, not a party house nor a place for loud music. This is a place to hear the sounds of nature.

Other things to note
The mountains are cooler than the coast, so have something warm to wear after dark in winter. We do get rain and some of the areas can get damp or wet if there is wind with the rain.
In the summer it can be hot in the sitting area, and we do have a fan available to circulate air. The bedrooms are cooler because of the nature of the rustic construction.
We do have many stairs on the property in order to access your accommodation. Please pay attention on the stairs.
Your welcome to dip in the pond that I built. The water is fed from an underground spring, hence it has a natural filtration system and we have a few fish in it. This is not a swimming pool.
We strongly suggest that you stop for groceries in town BEFORE arriving a once you do arrive you won's want to leave to go back to town to shop for groceries.
We have a small challenge in the bathroom. We used a non-wood base and it turned out to be more flexible than we expected and have cracked some tiles resulting in a bit of water dripping into the garden. We are seeking a solution how to permanently address this as too frequently we have to replace the tiles.
We do not offer wifi as this is a place to disconnect from work.

Where you’ll be

Jarabacoa, La Vega, Dominican Republic

We live in one of the top mountain developments in the Caribbean, Quintas del Bosque. Walking distance from the house are two waterfalls. The first is an easy 20 min hike. This falls is about 30 ft high. The second falls is another 45 min hike from here. You will hike in and out of the river and it is about 80 feet high and spectacular. Both waterfalls have wonderful pools to swim in.

Recently 2 miles of hiking trails were built on the estate. Bring your hiking shoes. Park your car and walk from our home to the trails of breath taking views where the only sounds you will hear are the birds singing or the water gurgling.

Our eastern neighbor is an active monastery with 10 monks. They offer Sunday mass and a gift shop.

On the estate are about 35 homes built but used primarily as second homes for weekend getaways .

Town is a 10 minute drive should you decide to explore the local markets and eateries.

Where I went to school: Studied commercial diver in CA
My work: full time adventurer
I am an adventurer, solo around the world racing yachtsman, award winning author, motivational keynote speaker and lover of life. I live for great experiences and have helped in diplomatic issues and peace talks. Much time is spent mentoring young people including teaching macro-economics at several universities, sailing, playing in my garden and traveling the globe. My friends span all corners of the world. I have no time for drama. When visiting us I enjoy stimulating conversations and will give you a tour of our gardens explaining why I have chosen to create this environment. Some of my favorite places range from Thailand because of the great street food, cheap massages and friendly, smiling people. We love Cape Town, South Africa with its great mountains and beaches, vineyards and orchards and resilient, polite people. Portugal and Ireland are special because of all our close friends there. As a motivational speaker I have experienced many countries and cultures, enjoying the finest hotels. But we always add on extra days to throw a backpack on and travel like a local. I have had the privilege of experiences over 100 countries. I have also sailed to some of the most remote corners of our planet. Currently I am writing my third book based on our travels, people we have come to know and cultures we have loved. I will cover economic injustice, social reforms, what a civil society should resemble to how we can add to our world and create a sustainable legacy.
