The space
**A Regenerative Oasis in the Mountains of Jarabacoa**

**The Experience**
Nestled in the high, mist-shrouded peaks of the Dominican Republic, this eco-retreat is more than a destination; it is a living testament to the harmony between humanity and nature. Designed around the principles of permaculture and high-performance sustainability, our mountain sanctuary offers a profound sense of peace for those looking to reconnect with the rhythms of the earth.
Wake to the symphony of tropical birds and the gentle flow of hand-built swales and mineral ponds. Whether you are taking a refreshing dip in the clay-lined pools or lounging by the mountain stream, every element of the landscape has been engineered to recharge both the groundwater and the spirit.

**Living Architecture: The Cob Cottage**
At the center of your stay is our handcrafted Cob Cottage—a sculptural dwelling born directly from the earth. Built from a traditional, soulful blend of clay, sand, straw, and water, the cottage features thick, organic walls that literally breathe, naturally regulating temperature and humidity for a tactile sense of comfort. Inside, the soft curves and earthen textures provide a grounding atmosphere, offering a rare opportunity to sleep within a structure that is as much a part of the ecosystem as the forest surrounding it.

**The Living Landscape**
Wander through a budding food forest of over 14 species of bamboo, citrus groves, native shrubs, and vibrant tropical fruits. Our property is an active demonstration of soil-building and biodiversity, where "chop-and-drop" mulching and nitrogen-fixing plants create a thriving ecosystem. Guests are invited to immerse themselves in this green sanctuary, spotting local wildlife or simply finding a quiet corner to observe the beauty of a landscape in restoration.

**The Architecture of Connection**
Complementing the earthen cottage is our signature, hand-crafted bamboo outdoor kitchen. This open-air space is designed for communal connection, where guests can gather for sunset drinks or shared meals overlooking the terraces. Throughout the gardens, you will find bespoke furniture crafted from local materials, positioned to offer the perfect vantage point for meditation, yoga, or quiet reflection.

**The Ideal Guest**
This sanctuary is curated for the eco-adventurer, the wellness seeker, and the intentional traveler. If you value authenticity, regenerative living, and the serenity of a sustainable-inspired lifestyle, you will find your reference point here.
Unwind in a home that breathes with you, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the mountains. Book your stay and experience a space where sustainability is not just a practice, but an invitation to navigate a more meaningful way of life.

Guest access
You have your own area with plenty privacy, but we do live on the property and you may find us in the garden or the wood fired BBQ area.

We have a second rental unit on the property, and you could meet other guests in the common areas. There are many paths around the property to go walking and exploring. You are welcome to come visit us at the main house. Please note that Quintas Del Bosque is a secure, gated, guarded property, not a party house nor a place for loud music. This is a place to hear the sounds of nature.

Other things to note
The mountains are cooler than the coast, so have something warm to wear after dark in winter. We do get rain and some of the areas can get damp or wet if there is wind with the rain.
In the summer it can be hot in the sitting area, and we do have a fan available to circulate air. The bedrooms are cooler because of the nature of the rustic construction.
We do have many stairs on the property in order to access your accommodation. Please pay attention on the stairs.
Your welcome to dip in the pond that I built. The water is fed from an underground spring, hence it has a natural filtration system and we have a few fish in it. This is not a swimming pool.
We strongly suggest that you stop for groceries in town BEFORE arriving a once you do arrive you won's want to leave to go back to town to shop for groceries.
We have a small challenge in the bathroom. We used a non-wood base and it turned out to be more flexible than we expected and have cracked some tiles resulting in a bit of water dripping into the garden. We are seeking a solution how to permanently address this as too frequently we have to replace the tiles.
We do not offer wifi as this is a place to disconnect from work.

Where you’ll be

Jarabacoa, La Vega, Dominican Republic

We live in one of the top mountain developments in the Caribbean, Quintas del Bosque. Walking distance from the house are two waterfalls. The first is an easy 20 min hike. This falls is about 30 ft high. The second falls is another 45 min hike from here. You will hike in and out of the river and it is about 80 feet high and spectacular. Both waterfalls have wonderful pools to swim in.

Recently 2 miles of hiking trails were built on the estate. Bring your hiking shoes. Park your car and walk from our home to the trails of breath taking views where the only sounds you will hear are the birds singing or the water gurgling.

Our eastern neighbor is an active monastery with 10 monks. They offer Sunday mass and a gift shop.

On the estate are about 35 homes built but used primarily as second homes for weekend getaways .

Town is a 10 minute drive should you decide to explore the local markets and eateries.

Where I went to school: Studied commercial diver in CA
My work: full time adventurer
I am an adventurer, solo around the world racing yachtsman, award winning author, motivational keynote speaker and lover of life. I live for great experiences and have helped in diplomatic issues and peace talks. Much time is spent mentoring young people including teaching macro-economics at several universities, sailing, playing in my garden and traveling the globe. My friends span all corners of the world. I have no time for drama. When visiting us I enjoy stimulating conversations and will give you a tour of our gardens explaining why I have chosen to create this environment. Some of my favorite places range from Thailand because of the great street food, cheap massages and friendly, smiling people. We love Cape Town, South Africa with its great mountains and beaches, vineyards and orchards and resilient, polite people. Portugal and Ireland are special because of all our close friends there. As a motivational speaker I have experienced many countries and cultures, enjoying the finest hotels. But we always add on extra days to throw a backpack on and travel like a local. I have had the privilege of experiences over 100 countries. I have also sailed to some of the most remote corners of our planet. Currently I am writing my third book based on our travels, people we have come to know and cultures we have loved. I will cover economic injustice, social reforms, what a civil society should resemble to how we can add to our world and create a sustainable legacy.
