Savor life in the heart of Provence at the historic residence of an art legend.
Our rooms, extensive lounges and cultural spaces each reflect a distinct personality - a blend of faithful architectural restoration and the creative vision of renowned contemporary art curator and professor David Galloway. Welcome to his one-time summer home and creative escape, now your own extraordinary base to explore the roots of the region and its vibrant new culture.
The space
Welcome to La Maison des Chapitres, a 15th century «hôtel particulier» in the town of Forcalquier, an artistic hub in the bucolic Luberon region of Provence. Each of our five rooms in the main house tells its own story.
The Atelier is a cozy ensuite bedroom with direct access to our expansive art studio space, ready to spark your creativity. Home to working artists during our residency periods, the space blends rustic charm with just the right creature comforts.
Atelier room amenities include:
-Comfortable double canopy bed (140x200cm)
-Personal desk with device chargers
-Bang & Olufsen wireless speaker
-Provençal toiletries
-Small armoire for storage
-Plush robes
-Unique art on display from the Galloway collection
You also have access to a variety of house amenities:
-Onsite concierge service
-Daily continental breakfast (served on the roof terrace, weather permitting)
-Self-service espresso and tea on the 3rd floor loggia
-Free weights and yoga mats
We offer a curated menu of wine, beer, cocktails, and limited snacks in-house, and have a wide variety of recommendations for restaurants in the area, many of which are within easy walking distance.
Guest access
We invite you to enjoy the extensive shared spaces of the house as well, including our music room (complete with grand piano), arts library (with connected smart TV), art atelier, ground floor lounge areas, and roof terrace. These areas are reserved for guests of the house, with the exception of limited public performances in our cultural calendar. The kitchen areas are generally reserved for our team.
During your stay
Your host based on-premise, Basil Galloway, is the grandson of the creative visionary behind this ambitious restoration. Having grown up roaming its salons and art collection since his earliest childhood memories, he oversees the property and will be delighted to welcome you.
Basil will generally be your contact for check-in and check-out and remains at your disposal onsite as you need. Whether you're seeking local recommendations or a personal tour of the works across the house, updates on the latest cultural events or an inspired wine selection or challenging chess partner, you'll be in excellent hands.
