Forest Cabin with Fireplace + Deck — Family-Friendly & Romantic Getaway.
Built by two brothers in 1979 on the edge of Tahoe National Forest, Camp Hansel blends vintage cedar charm with thoughtful design. Backed by open space, the forest begins at your door. Recently renovated with original woodwork, a new kitchen and baths, gas fireplace, and curated finishes throughout. Three bedrooms (king, queen, queen + bunks). The back deck offers a front-row seat to the trees.
The space
🌲 Camp Hansel was built in 1979 by two brothers who carved it into the trees at the edge of Tahoe National Forest. You can still feel that spirit — warm cedar walls, a quiet loft, light filtering through the pines.
🌲 We lovingly renovated the cabin to preserve its character while elevating every detail. As longtime Airbnb hosts and interior designers, we layered natural textures, vintage pieces, custom tilework, and thoughtful lighting throughout.
⛺ The layout balances connection and privacy.
On the main floor, you’ll find a welcoming mudroom, a bedroom with a queen bed and twin bunks, a full bath, laundry, and an open living space anchored by a gas fireplace. The kitchen was completely redesigned for slow breakfasts and unhurried dinners.
😴 Upstairs, a cozy loft overlooks the trees with a dedicated desk for remote work, alongside a queen bedroom, a king bedroom, and a second full bath with heated floors.
★ Original cedar walls pair with wood floors throughout — no musty carpet, just clean air and soft light. The back deck is your front-row seat to the forest, perfect for morning coffee and long evenings as the light fades through the trees.
Equally suited for two families or a quiet escape for two.
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire cabin and surrounding property. Please note there is no garage.
In winter storms, you may need to shovel your vehicle — we provide shovels and encourage snow-ready vehicles during heavy snowfall.
Other things to note
There are trails just beyond the backyard — it’s a truly magical setting.
That said, this is a mountain home. You may spot wildlife (yes, occasionally even a mouse), hear coyotes at night, or experience a brief power outage during storms. We’ve installed a gas fireplace for warmth, keep flashlights on hand, and maintain a small emergency supply kit for weather-related outages.
If you arrive with an appreciation for nature and mountain living, you’ll have a wonderful stay.

We're a family of four plus a sweet dog. We love to garden, cook, hike, go to restaurants, and take our kids on fun trips.
We love the outdoors - hiking, skiing, biking - so can point you to the best places to get outside and see big trees, gorgeous coastline and mountains just outside of Oakland.
We've been in the Bay for 20 years. Rockridge is full of delicious restaurants and small businesses. We are also cooks and foodies - so we have great tips on the best food spots in the Bay Area.
