The space
The Buffalo Cabin is a modern blend of Southwest and Scandinavian style with wood and tile throughout. It consists of two bedrooms with queen beds, and a superior quality sofa bed (full) located in the Great Room. The cabin has both mini-split heat/AC climate controls and gas heating for maximum performance and efficiency. The cabin offers Starlink Internet, a chef's kitchen and beautiful bathroom for your comfort. This is fully off grid, with solar, septic and a well, being intentionally designed. The cabin's water is sourced from our private well and filtered with a two level filtration system. We have exceptional flow rate of water, so take as long and as hot of showers as you please.
The cabin sits on 5.5 acres within an undisturbed 40 million year old cactus covered volcanic area that has been deemed an ancient Vision Quest site by a renowned state archeologist. Paleolithic and modern tribes utilized the area for hunting, stone sourcing and spiritually Shamanic purposes. The cabin directly faces Sun Mountain (Pikes Peak) 25 miles to the East, the most sacred mountain of the Ute Tribe and sits along Highway 9, a primitive road used by native peoples for tens of thousands of years. This is an area explored by the Spanish in the 1700's, in which the local towns Canon City, Salida and Buena Vista have reflective names. The cabin sits between two areas deemed Dark Skies, Browns Canyon and Florissant Fossil Beds. For stargazers, witness the dark sky, meteor events and beaming Milky Way, as nature intended.
The cabin is located under two hours drive from Denver and one hour from Colorado Springs. The famous gold medal trout fishing Dream Stream on the South Platte River is only 6 miles away with 3 major reservoirs, Spinney, Eleven Mile and Antero in town for boating and fishing activities. The Cabin sits on the edge of the Pike National Forest, which offers exceptional hunting opportunity.

Welcome to the Buffalo Cabin!
Guest access
The cabin is accessed by a key within a lockbox. A lock box code will be provided the day before your arrival.
When entering the neighborhood, there will be a Buffalo gate you'll enter through. It's a simple gate where you get out of your car to open and then get out again to close it behind you. Or, simply have one of your party members get out to open the gate, let you drive through, and they'll close it behind you.
Other things to note
Please understand that you’ll be within public lands without fences where Buffalo roam free. Buffalo are not passive or friendly. Do not approach, pet or interact with Buffalo or other wildlife. Stay at least 200 feet away and keep children and pets close by, as Buffalo will be defensive and aggressive when challenged or approached. If you see Buffalo present then you should quickly make your way to your care, close to the cabin and ideally on to the deck. If driving by a Buffalo, drive slow ~5mph and first wait for them to walk past you. Guests are responsible for their safety, as the risk of serious injury or death is real. The Buffalo are not property of the cabin’s owner and the owner of Buffalo Cabin is not responsible for the actions or damage caused by the Buffalo.
The cabin has a septic system, so please do not flush feminine products or materials other than toilet paper.
We do not have a garbage disposals or dish washer. Please clean your dishes by hand and discard your food waste into the trash, as it could damage the septic system.
Outdoor fires are prohibited by the county because for the wildfire risk. We would love to offer outdoor fires but the risk has simply become too great. We're sorry.
Back up Generator: The Buffalo Cabin is fully off-grid and in winter/cold months our generator has to often kick on during the night for up to 3 hrs to restore the battery pack. This is especially true when there is a day or two without sun. When inside, you might hear a gentle hum when the generator is running, but outside it can be moderately loud during those few hours. I can control the generator from my phone so just let me know if its bothering you when running during the day. But it only turns on when the energy storage is very low.
Thank you!
