Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Bridge End Bunkie is nestled in the cedar forest on the Historic Ball’s Bridge Stone House property adjacent to Ball’s Bridge on the Maitland River. Enjoy a riverside campfire with a beautiful and private view of this unique historic bridge. The nearby Maitland Trail and Goderich to Guelph Rail Trail makes this an ideal stop for avid hikers and cyclists. Enjoy fishing, short trails on the property, sketch, or head into Goderich, only a 15 min drive, for dining and shopping. Price includes HST

The space
Be prepared for a rustic experience as the bunkie does not have hydro or running water. Fresh water is provided for cleaning and cooking on the outdoor kitchen.

For Sleeping
Upper loft has a thick comfortable queen mattress and the main floor has a daybed with 2 twin mattresses that can be placed side by side for a king size when the base is pulled out. A comfortable amount of space for 2 adults and 2 kids.

There is a large mowed area beside the river nestled behind the Joe Pye weeds. Requests can be made for additional adults in a tent that you provide and set up. $22.30 per additional person over the age of 12 per night (includes HST)

There are 2 small touch LED lights available. Please bring a flashlight if you wish to navigate around in the dark.

For Meals
Enjoy a riverside fire with a cooking grill or use our recently added out door kitchen to prepare your meal. The outdoor kitchen has a grill/griddle and 2 burners as well as a sink for washing dishes by using the supplied water in the blue jug.

Firewood is provided, please do not bring wood due to invasive insects.
Pans, griddle, dishes and cutlery are all on site along with cooking spray.
Picnic table. (Please keep mind to protect the table with the plastic cloth provided and don’t place hot or greasy things on the table surface.)
Fresh water and a wash basin and dish soap. In case of rain if you need a pop up shelter over the picnic table one is available.

For Toileting
The “Trout House” is a sawdust composting outhouse. Sawdust is available in the tote behind, place a handful or two on top of every use.

There is no shower facility.

For Your Entertainment
Bridge End is all about being creative and enjoying the beauty of the historic bridge, the river and surrounding cedar forest. Artists are invited to come armed with all their painting supplies, or book Elizabeth for your own private sketching lesson.
There are a few short trails on the property or if you are an avid hiker the Maitland trail connects right to us on Balls Bridge. Maitland trail maps are in the side table.

Fish the Maitland River, 3 day or year long licenses can be easily purchased online. If you are really keen my husband could be talked into sharing some fishing flies and a fly rod.

Bring your own kayaks, inner tubes or floaties. A great run on the Maitland River is Auburn to the bunkie. This stretch takes anywhere between 2 to 5 hours depending on the water level. When the water is low it does require walking in several areas and can take longer to get home. If you would like to do this run, park at the Auburn bridge and float down to home.

Take a few minutes to sign our guest sketchbook. Leave a doodle or note or try your hand with the provided watercolour set.

*NEW we are now permitted to allow the use of our river canoe for you to enjoy a sunset paddle around the bridge and up river as far as the rapids.

Guest access
Bridge End Bunkie is situated in the edge of the cedar forest, riverside just a short 5 min walk downhill from the house where you would park your car just off the driveway.

Should you require assistance bring your things down to the river we have a side-by-side that that we can use to take things down to the river.

If you bring kayaks or a canoe they can be launched from the other side of the bridge on Little Lakes Road and paddled across as there is ample space to maneuver a vehicle near the river there.

Other things to note
There are no other rentals on this exclusive riverfront property. I do use the trails to exercise my dogs and the river to cool them off especially on hot days so please let me know if you are afraid of or uncomfortable around dogs. I also love to fish and paddle about in my canoe will occasionally be in and out of the area to check on things or access the river.

Please consider inviting me to join your evening fire as I have opened up this precious space to share it with like minded people and meet new travellers.
