Unbeatable location

Escape the hustle and bustle to enjoy some quiet time in the historic town of
Talbot situated in the Central Goldfields region.

While slow pace and solitude can be enjoyed, Bonnie is a great base to
discover all there is on offer around the region, whether that be long bush
walks, gold fossicking or some cellar door tasting in the local wine regions.

Lovingly restored, featuring all the “mod cons” to make your stay comfortable
whether it be for just a couple of nights or longer.

The space
“Bonnie” is an ode to the former owner of the cottage who called the historic
township of Talbot home for over 50 years.

The cottage has two double bedrooms, one with queen size bed, and beautiful
linen has been used to dress both of beds.

A cosy setting with efficient heating and cooling systems as well as a
combustion fire box for extra warmth and ambiance during the chilly
Winter months. There are also ceiling fans fitted in the bedrooms and kitchen/living area.

The front of the home is able to be closed off to enjoy a more snug
feel if there is just one or two guests.

The kitchen is well equipped for guests who like cooking and meals can be
enjoyed at the kitchen table, central island bench or “al fresco” at the large
stone refectory table.

The “moody” and spacious bathroom features a restored cast metal claw foot
bath as well as walk-in shower and “Euro” laundry with front loading washing
machine.

The convenience of keyless entry with an individual access code provided
prior to check-in for your added security is also a great feature.

Guest access
Bonnie's is all yours during the stay.

Talbot is a small town which has a pub, post office, café and a few retail shops
like books stores, antiques, to name a few.

Proudly an inclusive environment and all guests of any background or
community are welcome here into a safe space. However, it does have a
“step up” bathroom so may not be suitable for people with limited mobility.

Feel free to use the garden/courtyard area to enjoy a morning cuppa or some nibbles
and a glass of wine from the region, under the vine draped arbour.

Most of the time the surrounds are very quiet and peaceful however, the town is abuzz the 3rd Sunday of every month with the Talbot Farmers and Town Hall Markets which draws a large crowd of shoppers and traders.

Other things to note
Smoking is not permitted at Bonnie's.

The pantry is stocked with locally ground coffee suitable for a plunger, Nespresso machine and tea, both black herbal as well as other larder basics.

Private onsite parking.

An access code will be provided closer to the date of arrival.

Guests find it hard to leave once they settle in, so we recommend doing a
shop before coming either in Creswick or Clunes which both have IGA
Supermarkets or in Ballarat which does have more choice, depending in which
routing is taken.

Most of the large supermarkets can also be found just a 10 minute drive away,
in Maryborough.

The Talbot Post Office operates 7 days a week (limited hours on
weekends/public holidays) and does have basic grocery items, takeaway food and coffee.

We have an enhanced cleaning procedure in place to help protect both our
guests and staff.

Please contact us should you have any further questions and we hope to welcome you soon.

Neighborhood highlights

The small township of Talbot is located within what was a very rich gold mining
area between Maryborough and Clunes.

Today there is only a few hundred people live in Talbot. The town retains a number of
historic buildings from its prosperous gold mining days which can be observed
by taking a walk along Scandinavian Crescent in the heart of the town.
Some of the old shops which line this street are now home to speciality
businesses, including a stationary and giftware shop, bookshop and bric-a-brac and antiques store.

The restored London House building in Scandinavian Crescent operates as a
cafe and overlooks the beautiful community garden.

At the corner of Scandinavian Crescent and Fyfe Street is the Talbot Pioneers
Memorial Playground with BBQ and picnic shelters. The monthly Farmer's and Townhall Markets operate in Scandinavian Crescent the surrounding streets.

Just around the corner in Camp Street is Talbot's post office, an old court
house (built in 1866), former school buildings, and the Primitive Methodist
Church (built in 1870) which is now a museum. Camp Street is also the location
of one of Talbot's oldest buildings, the Court House Hotel which was built in
1860.

At the junction of Heales Street and Ballarat Street is the shady Soldiers
Memorial Park and the impressive facade of the Talbot Town Hall which was
built in 1862 and has now been restored.

5 kilometres north-west of Talbot is the town of Amherst. First settled in 1855
and a bustling town in the middle of a gold belt, it is almost deserted these days.

Historic attractions include the local cemetery and state school.
South-west of Amherst, via Quartz Track, is the Amherst Reef Geological
Reserve where there is a huge quartz outcrop. The surrounding eucalyptus
forest is rich in wildflowers.

I live between Melbourne and Talbot so I am not always in town. Great pride is taken to ensure that our guest’s experience is as special as possible and on most occasions, there is a member of the team close by. If anything is required, assistance is generally just a call away…
